WHS Alumni Activities Committee

Our third meeting of the week pertaining to the reunion was Thursday evening with the Alumni Activities Committee. Like the other groups we posted on they are wrapping up some of the last minute details. Some of those at the meeting was expressing a little nervousness in hoping everything will go as planned. Others were rolling their eyes back hinting they will be glad when it is all over. We can understand that. With all the preparation there's not much time left for this core group of alumni.

A tag day was held this past Saturday. We hope it was successful. They had to endure some rain showers and we think that is dedication. There was one young lady we saw standing in the rain with an umbrella and we believe she isn't even a WHS graduate.

Some announcements we heard are: The WHS Marching Band will not be participating in the parade on July 2. We understand the School Board will be looking for a band director shortly. The High School Flag Corp will be selling WHS flags as part of a fund raiser in one of the booths during the reunion.

The Alumni web site maintained by Sparky Miller has been opened up for all to see & visit without having to pay for a subscription. Sparky has been all over getting reunion information out through his site and on Face Book. We really like some of the pictures he's using! That web site can be found at http://www.wellsvillealumni.com/.

Saturday's Car Show will be staged on Main St. between 4th & 5th. It was originally planned for Riverside until the street closure was changed. This year Main Street will be closed from the old 356 Bar to 5th St. It was changed in consideration of some of the businesses on Main to 3rd to Broadway.

Each of the first 50 owners that have cars entered in the show will be presented with a grab bag that includes a dash plaque. Prizes will be given for four categories. Trophies will be awarded for the oldest car, the car brought in from the longest distance, the oldest Alumni participant and the youngest Alumni participant. Anyone wanting to enter a car in the show should contact Janice or Tim Wright at 330-532-1847. Entry fee is $5 per car.

The Alumni Reunion shirts can be pre-ordered. The shirts will be held aside for pick up at the Alumni Center. They are not shipping. Shirts are $10 each for sizes up to XL and $11 for larger sizes. Make checks payable & mail to WAAC, P.O. Box 194, Wellsville, OH 43968. Shirts are available now. We posted a picture of the shirts on one of our previous posts and Sparky has one on his site mentioned above. In addition to the shirts pictured a gray golf shirt with a collar is also available.

Corrections were announced for parade times for Friday prior to the Legends ceremony on the Square. The lining up will begin at 5 P.M. with the kick-off at 6 P.M. The parade will be coming "up-town" and participants will line up just down from the Fire Station on Main. Anyone wishing to enter the parade is asked to contact Parade Chairman Jack Call at 330-532-3155. Jack is still looking for anyone with a convertible that is willing to help. If you got a "rag top" please call Mr. Call. If you don't want to drive in the parade Jack with find a chauffeur. Grand Marshalls for this years parade are Jean & Tom Broderick and Kenny Delauder. John Elmer guarantees it won't rain on his parade!

The All-Class Dinner will be at the new high school. A reception will be held in the Auditeria with the dinner in the gym. It's all air conditioned. Reservation forms were mailed out. You're asked to get your reservations in as soon as possible for planning purposes. If you didn't get one you can call 330-532-2731, or 532-1932 or 3932.

On July 1 the Ladies Auxiliary of the Riverside Presbyterian Church will have a one day sidewalk cafe for lunches from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. Carry-outs will be available by calling 330-532-2214 to place an order. Outdoor dining overlooking the scenic river and hillside will be held in front of the church. Also, the "pie ladies" will have a booth on the Square selling their mouth watering pies from 4 P.M. to 9 P.M. Wednesday through Saturday. We'll have more details posted later. Both the outdoor cafe and pies are RPC legends.

The Wellsville Area Chamber-of-Commerce will have a booth set up selling Alumni Beer steins that were produced by the W.C. Bunting Co. The steins are available now from any Chamber member at $10/each. That goes up to $12 once the reunion gets underway.

On the schedules shown, the entertainment for the 6 P.M. to 1 A.M. slot for Saturday night will be Pittsburgh's John Parker Band. That is the band that is holding a poll for requested songs to be played that night. The Shephard siblings all swear it is an outstanding band you won't want to miss.

Hopefully, after Monday we'll have a list of this year's Wellsville Legends to be inducted. In between the All-Class Reunions it is part of the Wellsville Elk's Riverside Reunion. This year the organizers have included the Legends awards as part of the big reunion. The Riverside Reunion won't return until 2011. The Legends will be installed Friday evening starting at 8:30, following the parade.

And that's brings us up to date with what we learned. There are some individual classes that will be holding reunion events for their fellow classmates. You can comment on here if you would like to advertise any of them.

Look forward to seeing you'ens...
