Highlandtown VFD Takes Home The Trophys
Following last Saturday's Fireman's Parade two battles were held at the Tiger Stadium between WVFD firemen and three visiting VFD teams. The three visiting teams were West Point VFD, Knowville VFD and Highlandtown.
A trophy and bragging rights for a year was awarded to the winner of the usual tug-a-war and the barrel contest. Against all hope Wellsville was eliminated in their first attempt in the tug-a-war. Grunts could be heard uptown in their efforts but they just couldn't pull Highlandtown across the line. Those fellows from out in the country had some serious beef on their end of the rope.
Wellsville fared a little better in the barrel contest. Highlandtown eliminated Knoxville in the first round and then challenged the WVFD. The contest consists of moving a barrel strung out on a high wire with fire hoses streaming water. The first six man team to move the barrel to their opponents pole wins.
The contest between Wellsville & Highlandtown was going back & forth with first one winning the round and then the other. There were firemen from both departments that showed remarkable skill aiming the water to just the right spot. It was an intense competition but Highlandtown held on to take the honors.
Congratulations to Chief Tim Roush and his fellow volunteers from Highlandtown.
