WHS Football Scrimmage Cancelled

Due to the amount of injuries Wellsville's Thursday evening scrimmage against Crestview has been cancelled. According to Head Coach Dave Skinner a number of his key players are temporarily side lined with minor injuries and would not be able to play the scrimmage. Rather than risk additional injuries it was decided to take a pass on the scrimmage.

The Tigers will now turn their full attention to preparing for the season opener at Toronto that is coming up Thursday, August 26 at 7 P.M. Their home opener is Friday, September 3 at 7:30 P.M. vs. the East Palestine Bulldogs.

Here's hoping those side lined will get back soon.

Good Luck Tigers...

Let's face it, we need to give serious consideration to consolidation. We just don't have the numbers anymore.

Fogot to mention - Ticket officials will be at the high school Thursday & Friday selling season tickets. Senior passes will also be available. Bring I.D. for passes. They will be there from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M.

Anon. - you make a good point. Gone are the days when there were 50 to 60 athletes trying out for sports like football. Back in the 60s when we baby boomers were going to school we had academic ineligibility but not all the other sports competing for the athletes. However, that is just one aspect to consider for arguing in favor of consolidation.

Nib- Very true. Consolidation presents academic and athletic benefits. Plus, think of the cost-cutting benefits. We have homes in the 'ville now that you couldn't sell for $10,000, yet the property tax is $700 per year. This is all due to school levies. I voted for the levy against my own best interests because I am willing to make sacrifices for the kids. However, you have to admit there is a problem when property tax costs the same amount as 4 months of mortage payments each year. You aren't going to get working families willing to move into town with the high rates.

We would like to see a house valued at $10,000 with taxes running $700 per year. You may be correct but based on what we pay we find it a little hard to fathom. Personally speaking we are still contemplating the concept of consolidation. It certainly is not a new idea. It's an old idea brought up anew recently. There are so many pro & cons to be considered. It's not something that should be made with rash decisions.

The problem is in the assessed value. A house can be appraised at $50,000, but it is really only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Have you seen what houses are going for in the 'ville? NOBODY is paying $50,000.
