Wellsville HIstorical Society Dedicates Mary Clark Room

Sunday - August 8: The Wellsville Historical Society dedicated the Mary Clark Room this past Sunday at the River Museum. Previously called the Victorian Parlor the room was dedicated to the memory of the late Mrs. Clark by surviving members of her family. Grandaughters Joanna Seich & Amy Northrop unveiled two plaques designating the parlor the Mary Clark Room. Historical Society President Robert Brassy Beresford was Master-of-Ceremony and Rev. William Betteridge, Pastor of Riverside Presbyterian Church, offered the invocation & benediction. Programs for the ceremony were designed by Robert Lloyd.

Mary G. Clark was born in 1925, the daughter of John and Ruth (Bunting) Kerr. She was a lifetime Wellsville resident and the wife of the late John (Jack) Clark. They were the parents of five children.

Mrs. Clark was very active in civic affairs throughout her life and strived for perfection in everything she did. It was remarked that she could have been the first lady of Wellsville. Mary was a graceful, kind and regal lady to all that knew her. She was a long time member and Past President of the Historical Society and a very avid genealogist, specializing in Wellsville families.

In addition to the Historical Society she was an elder at Riverside Presbyterian, member & Past President of the Wellsville Lady Elks, former Chairwoman of the Columbiana County Republican Party, former Republican Precinct Committeewoman, and a member of the Southwick-Griscom-Kinney Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

There were 10 descendants of the Mary & Jack Clark family representing three generations that attended the dedication ceremony. They were John Seich, Joanna Seich, James Seich, Ann Clark-Seich, Grady Northrop, Steven Clark, Linda Clark, Brian Clark, Amy Northrop and Dillan Northrop. They are pictured in that left to right order in the lower right corner of the collage above. Bonny & Brassy Beresford are in the middle of that group. Refreshments were served following the ceremony.

It was a fitting dedication to a lady that meant so much to the both the River Museum and the Wellsville Historical Society. Her contributions will be forever remembered.
