WHS Fighting Tigers Show Determination

Monday - August 9: With one week under their belt the Fighting Tigers show some serious determination in the start of the second week of two-a-days. With temperatures ranging in the mid-80s to the 90s we were surprised to see the number of players holding up quite well. There were 35 players report to camp last Monday for the start of two-a-days. This past Monday there is 34 young men sweating it out determined to make Wellsville proud of the 2010 squad.

Head Coach Dave Skinner reported that the 2010 team has 14 freshman players, 4 sophomores, 9 juniors and 7 seniors. Only three players were held out of practice for various strains & sprains. They should be back in the mix of things quickly.

The Tigers get their first test of season this coming Saturday with a scrimmage vs. East Canton at 10 A.M. at Nicholson Stadium. Then it's all down hill with the drudgery & heat from there. Their second scrimmage is scheduled for the following Thursday evening vs. Crestview, August 19, at 7 P.M.

Meet the Tigers Night is on the calendar for Tuesday, August 24 at 7 P.M. at the football field. The band, cheerleaders, volleyball team and golf team will also be introduced. It's open to the public and an excellent chance to show your support for all the participating students.

Members of the Touchdown Club will be on hand at both scrimmages and Meet the Tigers night selling tee shirts, the Tiger paw magnets and Tiger paw stickers. This years tees are very nice and suitable for all WHS sports. The TD Club will also be putting a feed on for both teams following the scrimmages.

Season tickets will also be available for both football & volleyball at all three events. Prices are $25 for adult passes & $20 for students for the five home football games. Volleyball passes are $40 for adults & $30 for students for the nine home matches. Tickets at the gate for either sport will be $6 per event. Senior citizen tickets for residents of the Wellsville School District for those 65 or older will also be available. Passes will also be available at the High School on August 19 & 20 from 10 A.M. to 11:30.

The first day of school is August 31. That was something we always looked forward to when we were doing two-a-days! Hang in there guys. Your hard work & determination is about to prove your Tiger pride.

Good luck to all the Tigers...

Nib, this is a bit off topic, but i was over at the 18th street playground today and noticed how it is littered with trash. there is no garbage can in the playground. it is depressing to watch as my town falls apart around me.
