Saturday - August 7: One of the high lights of Wellsville's annual Italian-American Festival is the awarding of $1,000 scholarships to two WHS seniors. This year's recipients were Matt Gibbs and Alex Phillips. The awards are based on academic achievement and student involvement.
Gibbs is the son of Lana and Steve Vallera of Wellsville. He was the WHS Class of 2010 Student Council President and a member of the National Honor Society. Matt plans to attend Youngstown State and major in pre-med.
Phillips is the son of Ann and Mike Phillips. He was President of the Science Club and a member of the National Honor Society too. Alex plans to attend Kent State in the fall as a exploratory major.
Pictured above, from the left, is Phillips, SOI V.P. Joe Traina and Gibbs. Traina presented the scholarships at the annual awards ceremony.

You're absolutely correct. Alex is the son of Ann & Mike. We were led astray. It's been corrected. Sorry for the mix up.
