Starting next Monday, August 16 through Friday, August 20, from 8 A.M. to Noon the Wellsville School District will be offering free summer school sessions to any students entering grades 5 through 8. Classes will be held at Daw Middle School on Center Street under the direction of Principal John Foley. Dr. Foley is one of the new guys in the district. Students can register at the school on Monday.
It's sort of a tune up before the start of the new school year and help for students that had problems with the achievement tests given last spring. Subjects that will be covered are math, language arts, social studies and science. There will class room instruction plus some one-on-one teaching. The teachers will be Doris Buzzard, Nikki DePace, Abby Williams, Lyndsey Kelly and Jeanne Waggoner.
Light refreshments will be served and tickets will be awarded for attendance and success in academic games. Students will be able to buy treats in the "store" with their ticket awards.
Attendance is voluntary but it is an excellent opportunity to get a step up before the first day of classes on Tuesday, August 31.
