Water Coming Back On - August 7 - 4:30 P.M.

With a broken valve on the main that supplies the village, water was shut off this morning to make repairs. The broken valve was located in the middle of the south bound lane on Route 45 just a little past the Highland Avenue entrance. Buckeye Water District employees discovered the broken valve late last night after working nearly 40 hours fixing a break in the water main that supplies Coal Hollow, Hibbetts Mill & Pleasant Valley roads. With all that time put in without a break District Manager Al DeAngelis said he had Pusateri Excavating called in to repair the broken valve.

Shown here around noon today are workmen cutting the old valve out. When they broke through and water was draining out I figured we would be in good shape when I saw the rainbow in that pit. It's faint but look between the third & fourth rung on the ladder to the right.

Checking back around 4:00 this afternoon workmen from Pusateri said they were finished and the water was being turned back on slowly. It will take a while. With all the old lines in the village they didn't want to cause more problems. That last picture is what it looked like when I got there. The hole was ready to be filled in.

Nice job by all involved.

Awesome job ! the water main really looks old , probably because it is. I remember when water line breaks were almost a weekly thing here in Wellsville. Fortunately we are pretty lucky anymore. But it's one of those things you take for granted, and when it's not there , it's very frustrating. Just keeping my fingers crossed and hope it all works out so I can be "Stinky No More."

Well Nib it's up to you. You are the news. Both the Review and Journal are reporting what you already told us , and stating the water service would be back on Friday evening.
On another subject, sad state of affairs when it comes to local news.....both newspapers , including the online versions appear to only update their information once a day, sometime after midningt. WOHI is nothing but programing from who knows where beamed via sattelite, WTOV 9 doesnt even have Saturday morning news , and neither does any of the three Youngstown stations.

You my friend are the information portal for the people of Wellsville who aen't "in the know"

A spokesman for the water district told me they found additional problems in the same area yesterday. That's why we lost water again last night. At 11:30 this A.M. our water came back on slowly and at 2:00 it's the same. It will take a while to get the pressure back up. The Mayor & Village Administrator told me about an hour ago that 4:00 was the target to get back to near normal. Keep your fingers crossed and say a little prayer. I'm getting to the point where I can't stand myself! Don't forget the boil order for anything you're going to drink or cook with.

I'm still waiting for those chickens to hatch!

Actually it was close to 10PM Saturday before we had any (and I mean any)flow from the taps.

Compared to similar incidents in the past this ( 4 or 5 administrations ago ie when the village entered fiscal emergency for the first time) this was fast. Despite the high water rates Buckeye deserves some credit for a mostly reliable water supply.

The papers can only report what officials report.
