Bevo

Being around Bevo a couple of days this past week gave me an opportunity to get to know him a little better. I've known of him for some time. Who doesn't? His basketball feats are legendary. He's been the subject of many sports articles on ESPN, the magazine Sports Illustrated and his former coach even wrote a book about him. That's just a few of the sources of the volumes that you can find information about his brief basketball career. He's even on Wikipedia.

Getting to know him a little bit better these past few days I would venture to say Bevo was a bit embarrassed with all the attention showered on him. He voluntarily offered to subject himself to all the hoopla that went with the the Old Gray Mayor's Basketball Game just so he could help out. He's a humble man that has always supported his family and done what he could to support our community. When my kids were in high school Bevo was at all the games just as a spectator. To this day he still supports youth activities. I have long been awed by his sports accomplishments and these past few days I've gained a lot of respect for Bevo the man. You would have to search high & low to find a nicer guy.

Pictured above is Bevo with the display of his trophy, plaques and awards at the autograph table along with Jack Call to the left and one of his high school team mates at WHS, Darrell Shanks.

Following that is Bevo waiting in the wings for his introduction. Looks like he still gets some of those pre-game jitters. Following that is Bevo coming out and being the center of attention while being introduced. The last picture is Bevo tossing up the ball for the tip-off to start the game.

Thanks should go out to Bevo for all his help and patience for putting up with a fool such as me.

Bevo you are Da Man ...

Bevo was my favorite part of the night. When he walked out there to a standing O my hair stood on end. Everybody did a great job on that event. It can only get bigger & better.
