Goat Keeps Watchful Eye on Wellsville

We know we've shown a picture of this goat before that was furnished by Wellsville's Merriweather & Lewis. They are the folks responsible for getting that flag nearly to the top of that hill, straight up from 3rd Street. They even cleared some of the brush away up there.

Frequently seen near the flag is a wild goat that keeps an eye on the Village. We've seen it a few times but usually by the time we get ready to take our own pictures he moves out of sight. Yesterday it seemed he was poising for us. We spotted him and hurried home to get the camera figuring he would be gone again by the time we returned.

He waited for us, standing on that fallen tree and even gave us some different poises. He still amazes us...

I've thought about releasing several goats up there to establish a breeding population. I think it would be neat.

We think that would eventually lead to a feeding and care problem when the goat population gets overwhelming.

We're still wondering where that goat came from?

More than likely, someone abandoned the goat. I don't think wild goats are usually found in Ohio. While he seems to be thriving somehow, it's also kind of sad. And while "Anonymous" thinks it would be "neat" to "establish a breeding population", Nib is right. That would only lead to problems and possible misery, such as starvation, for the goats.

Cool about the goats, spay or neuter then release & build them a little goat shack for the cold season & rain, make sure they are hydrated & fed & visit them so they don't get lonely.
