It's Over - Lets Move On

The campaign, the election, the provisional ballots and the automatic recount are all officially completed. It's over. It's done. It's time to put it all behind us. It's time to move on.

Congratulations to Mayor Joe Surace. Your four vote margin win held up after the recount on Wednesday. Your opponent, Dave Lloyd, was quoted as saying they "gave it a heck of a shot" and that 0.4% difference in vote totals makes that an understatement. To say the least it wasn't an overwhelming victory and that in itself should speak volumes. There's a lot of work to be done. As you were reported as saying "now is the time to start moving forward".

I tend to agree that your first term was a learning experience and some of those lessons came right out the books for the school of hard knocks. I hope you learned your lessons well and that there are no hard feelings. Your administration is not out the woods yet. There will be some criticism but hopefully you will take it as corrective criticism and take it under advisement. Take the comments into consideration. There is often merit in what those that oppose have to say.

Our fair village is our home and I for one appreciate what has been done to improve the appearance and hope we can continue with what has been promised for the way things are to be done. Coming out of two fiscal emergencies we have certainly learned that we have to live within our means. That will never change and we will always have to research for a way to our means. We have to be fiscally responsible and we tax payers have a constitutional right to know how that will be accomplished. If you're going to build, say a road, let us know up front how it's being planned to pay for it. If you're going to borrow from Peter to pay Paul let us know. It's our right. As tax payers we're the ones footing the bill. Don't leave us feeling uneasy on how anything is going to get done.

Any politician has to have dreams and visions on how to move our village forward with improving and maintaining what we have. You have shown me you have these qualities. There's a lot of work to be done and we have a lot of good people willing to give their support. There is nothing ahead of us but the future. Show those 493 voters that they made the right decision.

Again congratulations and Good Luck in your next term. Some say Wellsville got what they deserve. Show them they are absolutely correct.

Good going Ole Nib:
You are a class act. Thanks for your great post. You are always honest and up front without being insulting and you always, always put the well being of our Village first. I wish I was more like you, when I post. Sometimes I just get so angry and lash out and say things that are probably better left unsaid. Human failing. Thanks again for setting the road straight for us all to walk on. Hope Mayor Surace takes it all to heart.

I agree that we all need to move on. I do think that Joe has done a lot during his 1st term and I think he can be one of the very few Wellsville mayors who will actually do something and be remembered for the things that were done during his administration.

cant wait said...

without sounding ignorant, which i am not trying to be, if people have a problem or problems they should go and see the Mayor or any of the councilmen or women, or simply going to a council meeting, they are more than willing to listen, and who knows maybe one of your ideas is a better way than they thought, talk to the administration instead of it building up then it divides a town, just take the time and talk to these people they talked to me and they solved my problem within days they are not all monsters like people make them out to be after all they are working for the best of the community they are not mind readers they dont know what is going on unless someone tells them.

Opinion - It's only natural to get peeved once in awhile. If you could only hear some of my ravings while I'm getting it off my chest! That's the private side I hope you never witness on here and one of the biggest reasons I like to sit back and think about things before spouting off.

cant wait - I think Joe really means it when he said he has an open door and is willing to talk to anyone. I think his reticence will be a thing of the past and chalked up as a learning experience and something to avoid. I always remember my granddad telling me the dumbest question is the one that is never asked. You may think I've gone over the edge but what I'm trying to say is don't be bashful when it comes to talking to the mayor, council folks or anyone else in the administration.

Funny how his door is noe open but before was welded shut and pad locked...but good luck in the next four years. Hope the police department is the first to get straightened out.

ole nib
I know Joe has an open door policy he has had it since he was elected the first time, he is a very nice guy and willing to talk to everyone and he does actually listen he does like talking to people to get their views, again how will he know if noone tells him

Those who are leaving comments that include childish personal attacks on Dave Lloyd can stop wasting their time. I will not publish them. Your man Joe Surace won the election. Live with it.

Yada yada yada. Surace is a Disgrace.....My new slogan.

Now if that isn't a double standard, these 2 posts are back to back. I guess it's ok when you own the blog, you can put whomever you want on there and keep others off. Cool man real cool.

if people want to know what is going on with the village, why dont they go to a council meeting? why dont they volunteer their time on a different committee? you see some of the people of wellsville is also to blame they sit back and do nothing but complain, or criticize, instead of volunteering. I am sure i will get some back lash about this but after everything is said and done they would be proving my point, lets not be the problem but work together everyone and come up with the solution by working together

Of course when it's your blog you can keep comments off. I'm not a Matt fan by any means, but he has every right to say whatever he wants in his blog, and to keep whatever he wants off it. If he wants to blog about his lint roller collection, he can do that. It's his site. That's the beauty of blogging, you can do or talk about just about anything.

Anonymous said...

He also let someone call the mayor a dickhead..but he doesn't want any childish comments about Lloyd. I don't even believe he's getting any comments about Lloyd. I think Matt speak with forked tongue.

Matt, stop eating all the sour grapes, your going to make yourself sick!

Anonymous said...

Poor Matt, that darned Joe Surace just can't stay out of his former employer's paper, just when he thinks he's safe, there's Mayor Joe smiling staring out at Matt again.

It's gotta be unbearable that he has to go fuck himself everytime he thinks of Wellsville.

widowed in may-got computer-been visiting site since. I am a wellsville native class of 57 now living in CA.I have followed the election, police problems, murders, and such. hard to believe that my hometown where I LOOKED OUT MY WINDOW on riverside has these problems. The child in me still wants things to be as before-but alas time changes all things . my heart is still with you all in wellsville so hang in there everyone.

(Sung to the tune, "Have yourself a Merry little X-Mas)

Everybody knows...
A crow and some sour grapes...
Help to make Matt's season bright...
Mayor Surace said go fuck yourself...
And now he finds it hard to sleep tonight...

(Feel free to add your own lyrics)

Here’s a tune: (Sung to Frosty the Snowman)---

Falcon the Eddie….. was a very troubled soul….

With his wicked tongue and his four letter words…

He’ll be getting lots of coal….

Falcon the Eddie…. Was a very stupid man….

He joked and he cussed and he made a fuss…

But he was put on the stand….

Anonymous said...

Falcon Eddie is funny. You are are the one eating sour grapes from the sounds of it. 4 MORE YEARS. Also, Matt has once again showed us his hypocrisy and double standard. No comments about Lloyd, not that anyone probably is doing that, but you can go on ORL and call the Mayor anything you want. Unbelievable.

"he is a very nice guy and willing to talk to everyone"

When someone talks out both sides of his mouth, he CAN talk to everyone and tell them exactly what they want to hear.

To be sung to the tune of "UP ON THE HOUSE-TOP"

Next comes the stocking of little matt
OH, dear Santa, he's a rat
Give him a dolly for his shelf
One that will say, "Go F..yourself"
EVERYBODY!
Ho, ho, ho, who wouldn't go
Ho, ho, ho, santa loves Joe
Up on the house-top click, click, click,
4 more years just makes Matt sick.

To watching
Now that was a very noble effort.
Possessed some elements of humor but still permeated with with paranoia and hate. And by the way, would you like it if I called you "Blogger the Matt"? From now on please refer to me as "Eddie the Falcon" not "Falcon the Eddie". That simply makes no sense. And as a so called educator, I'd hope you would have spotted that on your own.

Mr. Frost,
If we worked together, we could be the modern day Lennon-McCartney duo.
Hats off to your lyrical genius.

-Why can't we vote it again?
-[nibmunk chatter]
Falcon, cut that out..Number 9 just a minute.
Mr. Frost will you cut that out? Boys...

After reading some of these parody songs I had to throw mine in there, and that is how it is done.

Nib, I like your site because it is from wellsville and the ville does rock. Good humor sometimes make people stop and think that all things don't have to be serious. I just hope no one is offended, just some good natured ribbing.

Say what you want but, If was the incumbent mayor and someone nearly beat me by a handful of votes, I would change the way that I was doing things. I have no doubt that if he would have released that independent report of the police department a few days earlier that more than 3 people would have changed and voted differently.

The Four Daze of Christmas

On the first day of Christmas..
Joe Joe gave to me...
A press conference at Diane's house
On the second day of Christmas...
Joe Joe gave to me...
Spray painted signs
And a press conference at Diane's house
On the third day of Christmas
Joe Joe gave to me...
Eddie back to work
Spray painted signs
And a press conference at Diane's house
On the fourth day of Christmas...
Joe Joe gave to me...
FOUR WINNING VOTES!!!
Four winning votes
Eddie back to work
spray painted signs
And a press conference at Diane's house

Anonymos,

you are right about that. this election should wake people up and for those who plan on running for office or re-elction.

Falcon Eddie,

That was good. FOUR WINNING VOTES. LOL.

Alright people, I'm tired of flogging this dead horse. To use an overused term from the sports world, SOMEONE NEEDS TO STEP UP and give me some fresh material. I'm just about tapped out on this subject. The 4 daze of Christmas was scraping up the remaining scraps of material.

White Christmas by The Lloydetts

I’m dreaming of a Joeless Xmas
just like the ones I use to know
where the Lloydetts eyes glisten
and Matt still listens,
to hear “F... You” in the snow.

I’m dreaming of a Joeless Xmas
with every law suit that we press.
May your signs be a spray-painted mess
and may all your Xmas’s..be Joeless

let's talk about something different other than this crap this is getting ridiculous, it is the holidays, election is over, surace won lloyd lost okay we get the picture, old news come up with something different, find something new like ways to improve wellsville or to help out your neighbor, do something nice for the person who helped you,

Anonymous said...

Ok, what are your ideas for improving the village? I think we should parody more Xmas songs, but I am willing to go with the flow. I would like to see a boardwalk on Riverside which is where I thought it was originally suppose to go. I also would like to see more business come in, new sidewalks and something done about so many dogs and cats running loose.

Anonymous said...

We would like to see a boardwalk on Riverside Ave. also, but if you look at the boardwalk by the murals it is much smaller than the one on Riverside will be. Funding was much easier to come by for that one. However, we are working on getting one started on Riverside this spring or summer. Any ideas on funding? Other than grants, we tried that an we may be able to use some grant money after we get some private funding.

Anonymous said...

Nib, I think it's time to move on.

Anonymous said...

It is VERY easy to say, "I think we need," or "I would like to see" but not quite as easy to give definitive answers on HOW to go about doing it...that's what makes a good candidate in any election.
Which of your candidates in Wellsville was able to actually say HOW he/she would accomplish the ideas/goals/missions/needs he/she wants to see accomplished?

Anonymous said...

To easy does it:
What does that matter now? News Flash-The Election is Over.

i hear the wellsville basketball team is 2-0 along with the freshman team i think it is time to start supporting the kids, hopefully they will keep up the great work we have alot of talent on these teams, hopefully you will all get out to see some of this talent

cant wait said...

you know you could change everything in wellsville but until you change attitudes among the people this town will always be the same, the same complainers complaining about stuff they have no clue what they are complaining about.... INSTEAD OF SITTING BACK AND COMPLAINING ABOUT HOW THE VILLAGE DONT DO THIS OR THAT GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND GET INVOLVED.....apparently you have alot of time on your hands if you are constantly on the computer.....

Anonymous said...

Class of '57 in CA - Welcome aboard. I'm envious of your warm weather out there. Today in the ville it didn't get above freezing and we have had snow flurries off & on all day.

If Hollywood needs any new script writers they need not look any farther than our commenters. There seems to be quite a bit of lyrical talent.

Funding for a Riverside boardwalk? How about Lowes or Home Depot? Did you see today's article in the ER about Lowes' donation to Newell for playground equipment? Not sure but I think Wendys gets into some community projects too.

Nibmunks? That's good.

I would just like to have a decent grocery store in wellsville. sav-a-Lot is so cold its like shopping inside of a refrigerator and they never have what you want anyway.

Anonymous said...

Committee Member: You could always try the "barrels"!!

Anonymous said...

Anonymous, I don't know what you could possibly want that Save-A-Lot doesn't have, except brand names.
I shop the one in Rogers and think it's a great store (I do use WalMart or Giant Eagle for some things), and I've shopped the Wellsville one, also. I've always found what I needed.
Obviously, you aren't going to find a bakery or deli or a florist but there are plenty of packaged baked goods and lunch meats and cheese.
Some people are just to picky for words!

Anonymous said...

I don't call it picky to want a clean, warm store that carries more variety. I know plenty of people who complain because they have to go to Liverpool and get what they want because crap-A-Lot never has what they want. I guess it is just a matter of personal choice and some people are happy and don't mind not having a nice grocery store.

Anonymous said...

You will never see this committee with the begging barrels. We have a basket you can buy chances on at CF bank right now. It's a Christmas basket. Also, we have letters to Santa, a mailbox for the kids to put their letters at CF Bank also. Maybe people will support us that way. Thanks

Anonymous said...

THE WELLSVILLE BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM WON AGAIN LAST NIGHT.. WE ARE STILL UNDEFEATED....WAY TO GO BOYS WE ARE PROUD OF ALL OF YOU.

Anonymous said...

I've been in the Crap-A-Lot just once. That's all I needed. The prices aren't that cheap, the selection isn't that good, and it's dirty. It's better to take a few minutes and head up the hill and go to Wal-Mart, Giant Eagle, Aldi's or up to the East End and hit Sparkle. I'm thinking that when the Baard plant comes and there are that many more people working in Wellsville, a real grocery store will open up. You folks should write to the Riesbeck's corporation...they don't have any stores up that way, and they are a real class act. They even have kids who load your groceries in your car for you, and who are not allowed to accept tips. And the store's prices are always great, and the stores are spotless all the time.

Anonymous said...

observing..thanks for the information. We deserve a nice store and I agree that when Baard comes in perhaps we can get something better.
