Post Election Morning After Thoughts

Well, it's over - almost. We have to await the recount but I don't think it will change anything. I could be wrong but I think the recount on the mayor's race will stand as reported by the Election Board's final count last night.

I don't know about you but speaking for myself I'm glad it's over. It seems that for the last few weeks we were consumed with this election. It got to the point that yesterday I didn't even turn on my computer. Even today I only checked the Election Board's web site and came here to note a few thoughts after reading the papers this morning. Maybe tomorrow I'll go surfing on the net. My folder of clippings is overflowing with articles to be considered for future posts. For now it's time to step back and reflect. There is more to life than politics.

There's been a lot of comments posted and I want to thank each and everyone of you who participated. Just remember you're responsible for your comments. Some were thoughtful. Some were outrageous and some of the banter fell somewhere in between. It has all been interesting and hopefully we can continue.

We got "new blood" on village council. Congratulations to all the winners. It's going to be challenging to keep your campaign promises and even more challenging to find the means to finance a lot of it.

We were happy to see that the floodwall and fire levy passed with such margins. Both are vital to our village and us residents. It's a small price to pay for such services and in the long run our cost of home insurance will offset the cost of the levies compared to the rates we would have to pay if we didn't have them.

Many predicted that the mayor's race would be close. So much for the 2 to 1 for Lloyd in the MJ internet poll. It was interesting to see that the Review did not endorse any candidates or issues and they call themselves a community paper. I can remember the day when the Review was very active in endorsing candidates and issues. Their neutral stand in these times is disappointing. Right or wrong at least the MJ had the moxie to do some endorsements for us to consider. You didn't have to agree with them but you have to respect them for doing it.

Now Mayor Joe Surace will have to step back and consider long and hard about his administration's policies with the close vote tally. The people of the village have spoken loud and clear. His first term has been a learning experience. Now it's time to make doubly sure all the i's are dotted and all the t's are crossed. We feel you got us going in the right direction especially in the past year. For the first time in decades our future is looking up and Joe has been there in its' infancy. Let's continue on in that manner. The people have spoken at the polls and you can bet they will be watching with eagle eyes.

There have been a lot of shots taken at each other in this election. It's over. Now is the time to get together with each other from both sides and pull together for the good of the community. It's time to be mature about our community and move on.

Let the healing begin...

I agree, we all need to think about what is best for Wellsville whether we like the outcome of the election or not.

Anonymous said...

congrats to mayor surace. he ran a clean campaign and won fair and square.

clean?

Nib,
I think you have a double standard, you chastize the Review for not endorsing a candidate and yet you endorse a candidate that won't answer a survey and take a position.

You are correct in stating that the town has to work together to progress. It will be difficult to do as the vote was split evenly. However, that is the mark of a good leader to make everyone work together and move the village forward. Time will tell if he has that ability.

Anonymous said...

And so it continues...... Just pure hatefulness coming out of a town that used to be a great place to live and raise your children.

Once everyone realizes that it takes the "together we will" attitude from ALL Wellsvillians to make Wellsville what it once was....then the ville will rise and shine again.

Wellsvillians, go with the choices that have made! Support your leaders. Don't settle for less! Expect more!

Leaders, realize the people of Wellsville are watching you! Have a plan. Follow through. Keep your promises. Serve the people of Wellsville. This is your opportunity to do the right thing.

New Rule. Only 1.5 minutes of speaking aloud at Wellsville Council meetings. ( It Depends who you are and what you have to say ) Forget about freedom of speech and expression or asking any questions. Not permitted.

I think both candidates ran clean campaigns. However, I don't think the two local bloggers ran clean commentary, especially Matt. I think these sites got people all whipped up for a race that they probably wouldn't even have cared all that much about otherwise. Wellsville is NOT the center of the world.

what i want to know is why counsel let it known after the election that they are responsible for the publication or the findings of the investigations. when diane made it perfectly clear that Joe Surace was responsible. talk about a personal vendetta. DIANE THE PEOPLE OF WELLSVILLE WANT TO KNOW WHY YOU LED THEM TO BELIEVE THAT YOU PERSONALLY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MISLEADING OF WELLSVILLE THANK GOD YOU ARE OUT

It's over yet people, still some votes to count. One never knows?

People up on shit hill should stay up on the shit hill. Don't worry about the ville, worry about your trustees and problems in your township. Annex into Village limits or stay the hell out.

THE ELECTION IS OVER PEOPLE GET ON WITH YOUR NORMAL LIVES BUT I WOULD DO SOME SERIOUS QUESTION ASKING TO THE WELLSVILLE COUNCIL ABOUT THE HALF TRUTHS THEY HAVE BEEN SPREADING. I KNOW I AM. BY THE WAY CONGRATULATION TO JOE SURACE. I FEEL HORRIBLE THAT EVEN THE COUNCIL WAS AGAINST YOU. I SHOULD HAVE NOT LISTENED TO STUPID GOSSIP. THE BETTER MAN WON.

I agree with you. Maybe all the lying councilman should be stripped out of office. I wish we could get rid of some others, Diane is gone that is a good start. She'll probably be quiet now. The Mayor did run a clean campaign, no sign destruction. Just facts about Daves record, and they didnt like that. Congrats Mayor. Now, though, everyone should put differences aside as Ole Nib says, and start to heal There are good things going on in the village that everyone can pull together on and help the healing.

We need new blood on council. It is not a lifetime job like some people must think. We have the same people who did nothing and my guess is they will continue to do nothing.

[Quote: Wellsville is NOT the center of the world.]

It is to the people who live there, as it should be.

[Quote: Just facts about Daves record, and they didnt like that.]

How convenient that "facts" about Dave's record were released to the public by the mayor PRIOR to the election but "facts" about the current police dept. didn't get released by the mayor until the day AFTER the election, and, ironically, the "facts" are basically the same...

Anonymous said...

alrighty then:

considering the pathetic voter turnouts across the country, not exluding Wellsville, if these two blogs got everyone "whipped up for an election they wouldn't normally care about" then in my opinion, these bloggers did a wonderful thing. I would much rather see heated debates from the two sides rather than no one talking about it at all.

It is called election strategy. It is a race to win. Everyone critisized the Mayors strategy, but it worked. Dumb like a fox. That is how that happened. Why didnt council vote to release the PD report before election? They could have. Blame them for no report. Diane surely should have leaked it if she wanted it out there ahead of time.

Anonymous said...

to sad state of affairs..council could have released the information and chose not to. Ask Cruella why they made that decision. As for the audit on Dave Lloyd, that is public record and of course it should have been used against him by his opponent..that is politics. If the other side had information like that they would have used it.

The trashman is trashing our village again, calling for rioting (tar and feathering)and calling us the laughing stock. His obsession continues.. calling on people to riot is stupid and irresponsible and dangerous.

Anonymous said...

about the Facts
how convenient that the councilman made it clear they are lloydettes and decided they would let everyone know that they had the power to release. MAYOR JOE SURACE's hands were tied by client/attorney priviledge.
WELLSVILLE COUNCIL YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF. WE WILL REMEMBER THIS NEXT ELECTION GOOD BYE ROSIE GOSS AND DON BROWN AND TONY CATALDO JOE SOLDANO. BY THE WAY WAS DAVE LLOYD AT THE COUNCIL MEETING LAST NIGHT AND IF NOT.....WHY

Anonymous said...

what a bunch of do nothing a..holes. the most work they ever did was putting their re-election signs up.

cant wait said...

your right we did nothing but find the facts and let them known we did not vandalize, tell the public lies and this crap about dave running a clean race is untrue and the lies are coming out in full force. FOR ALL of wellsville to know.

Anonymous said...

Council only did what the lawyers told them to. Don't blame Council for this report be released late. Tony Cataldo is sticking up for the Mayor saying what he did. Believe me, Council was told by the Lawyer, " The Mayor hired us, so it is up to him when this report gets released". See, they said they were working for the Mayor, not Council. So truth be told Surace not Council had the power when and where to release it. That's the truth, and Tony knows it.

A CITY HALL INSIDER SAYS:
In a complete reversal of his VAPID PARALYSIS, Mayor Surace has extended an olive branch out to Blogger Matt Stewart. In his new "Leave all PERSONAL VENDETTAS behind campaign" Surace may be asking Stewart to become his personal photographer.I can't wait to see that picture of Joe with the GOLDEN SHOVEL breaking ground for Baard Energy on ORL.

You have got to be kidding me!!! I joke rode by 9th and Commerce, there is a huge pile of wood, Cataldo equipment, and the neighbors said another pavillion is going up. WTF???????

What Wellsville needs is another good sports team. Seems like that's the only thing that ever gets us together. Never more so than back in the 70's from 71 through 76. Then again 83-84. And then the magic of the 94 football run to the championship. Those were the best of times in Wellsville. I have video I took walking down in front of the stands looking up at the crowd in East Liverpool after we beat Stuebenville Central in round 1 of the play-offs in 94. I think the whole town was there. Of all the video I've shot over the years, that is the most satisfying to me. I don't think we were ever so proud as a town as in that moment. Let's hope Bug and the boys can get it goin this year, and send us on another magic run to the state.
Go Tigers!

After reading Matts post about continuing to hound us here in the ville, as a Psychiatrist I am sure of the following diagnosis. Matts sick obsession with Joe Surace can be caused only by a rare occurence called Abuse as a Child by a Joe. Matt is a classic case of this phenom. As a small boy Matt was endlessly abused in everyway possible by someone names Joe. This has manifested into his bizarre and creepy behavior. I suggest deep thereapy by someone named something other than Joe. Meds will be crucial in his recovery if that is possible. Worst case scenario, he may have to be euthanized. Lets all pray for a speedy recovery for Matt.

Number one, this is the real Prince Planet and this post here is not mine. it was posted by someone else and not me. And for someone to call me a hyprocite, well lets say I have no idea why. I am from wellsville, live in East Liverpool and moving back to the Ville next year. This election has really torn the village apart. I was quite interested in the race because I wanted to see what would happen. And nothing happened. The only thing that happened was friends turn on each other and split things apart. Everyone had their own interpetation on the audit and again it was split. And now, as matt pointed out, the report would come out after the election, which did.

You see, no matter what, no one will be happy. Things that happened in the past will continue to surface and it will be a pro and con game with everyone. this person is right, that person is right. That person is wrong , that person is wrong. It will never end and to me is a damn shame. And when that new plant does come this way do you all actually think that the construction workers will reside in the village? Not with all this crap going on they won't. they will look for places out side the village or in the country. Why would they want to pay taxes to a village that have all these problems. Who is to say that are not reading both blog sites and shaking their heads. BAARD can always back out and leave Wellville shaking their heads and wondering what in the hell just happened.

Either Wellsville get it act together or suffer "dire consequences". And that is just my opinion. Not here to fight with anyone, just sharing my thoughts. And I am the real Prince Planet.

Perhaps it is time to move on. There is much work to be done in our little village. Fighting only makes it harder. We can play the blame game forever, but regardless of the final outcome we need to heal the wounds. matt Stewart will continue to fan the flames of discontent, but he does not live here and he does not lift even one of his little typing fingers to help support this village. Surace is mayor now and that could change but working for the good of Wellsville will never change, so lets get to it folks.

Anonymous said...

Prince Planet,
Do I understand you correctly, It is one of your goals to move to Wellsville next year?
You must read the paper, the murder rate in this town is higher than Youngstown.
Dude, you sound like a looser that needs to be from that town.
Damn shame that town used to be a decent place to live.

YES THE PAVILLION AT 9TH STREET IS GOING UP FOR MCMANN AND GOLDEN CARRY OUT CROONIES TO DISGUSS VILLAGE PROBS... SEEMS HE HAS MORE TO BRAG ABOUT AT GOLDEN CARRY OUT THEN HE DOES AT COUNCIL MEETINGS

Anonymous said...

There is no pile of wood at 9th & Commerce.

Damn, is somebody reading Stephen King novels? Where do you people come up with this stuff? If council knew they had the right to make the decision to release it, they would have done so the minute it was made available to them. The mayor sat on it, HE DID NOT WANT TO RELEASE IT! Ask yourself why now. Can't figure it out? Ummm.......hey........it's called..LAWSUIT! He slandered Wilson by saying he was ordered to the homicide and refused. The attorneys said there was nothing to support that allegation. How did Dinch or any council person mislead you? Damn, you people (famous words by Surace and Scarabino) will twist something that is already twisted. I was told that Surace had his secretary call all of council Wednesday morning and tell them they could come and view the full report in HIS office and wanted council to vote on whether to release it that night (last night). The pressure was on and Surace held off till after elections to release the report but only by putting
it on councils' lap. Good ole PASS THE BUCK JOE!

To Anonymous,

I was born and raised there. Family and friends are there. My kids go to school there. It matters to me what happens to my hometown. Yes Wellsville is somewhat going the hole but to me it down't matter. Being here in East Liverpool has made me want to move back. I can see Wellsville from my back porch and really close with my telescope. Yes, many people may want to leave, but I'm going back. It is my hometown.

Anonymous said...

Prince planet, isn't it amazing you have never taken the side of dave or mosulini but you are talking about moving back to the ville and someone puts you down. Why? When you move back you and your wife will be paying village income tax, school levies, fire levies, flood wall levies, general operating levies, and let's not forget your licence plate fee will go up. But these childish people don't want your money. (which would probably be going to their wages at village hall) No These good people of wellsville would rather call you and your wife childish names. I Welcome you to the village. Maybe in 4 years when you and your wife vote for mayor you will remember what these good ol boys had to say. Also When you do move here Watch your back and remember the only ones watching yours will be Lt. Wilson and patrolperson Eisenhart. These two you can count on. Once again you are welcome. The boys making the remarks can pack their badges OOPS! Bags and catch the first boat out of here

Anonymous said...

In case you didn't read the paper or see the election results: I'M SAFE FOR ANOTHER 4 YEARS. I ain't packing my badge NOWHERE, Mister douche bag.

Matt is back at it, calling Wellsville the laughing stock of the Tri State area. Geez, Matt, get a life. Try to make it your own, not take someone else for a change. Why not do another tour of the thriving east end of ELO. Or maybe start that real magazine, lol, that you are gonna do. That will be the day. I see a great future for you, somewhere far away from here. Try something other than dividing the town, and let people heal now. I also say, if Ed has something to say, why the hell doesnt he say it. It is real tiring waiting for him to come out with whatever bombshell he has tucked away. If he and Scarbino cant do their jobs, I hope Surace gets rid of both of them.
