News from both our local papers this morning brought us front page stories that a third search warrant was used to conduct yet another search of the Amato crime scene on Commerce Street. The search was conducted by the County Sheriffs office and BCI agents. County Sheriff Dave Smith was quoted as saying "new information came our way" but would not elaborate on the details. Smith was also quoted as saying he "thinks" the investigators found what they were looking for. WPD was relegated to perimeter security while the search was being conducted. It was reported that J.C. is staying with his parents but showed up along with one of his attorneys and both stayed outside while the officers did their thing.
I had heard last week from a reliable source that a meeting was to be conducted by all the agencies involved in this investigation. I refrained from mentioning it due to not knowing the what, where and when. We can only assume that the meeting was held and the third warrant was part of the results of that meeting. There must be a heck of a back log at the BCI labs. It was reported that after two months they still don't have all the results from their part of the investigation. Now, presumably, they have new evidence to look at.
Although charges have yet to be filed The Review said the shooting is listed as a homicide. If it's listed as a homicide what are the authorities waiting for? Isn't it standard procedure to first arrest the suspect and then conduct the investigation? The handling of this investigation has been screwed up from the get go and does not bode well on the reputation of our legal system not to mention what it says about the 'ville. Is it favoritism because of the family involved or are the county officials and others trying to besmirch the good name of our village?
There is a need for some kind of closure on this case. It's been over two months since the shooting occurred. It's time.

I couldn't agree with you more.. enough is enough.. if that were you or i we would be in a cell waiting the out come..our police dept needs a full investigation.. someone needs to make some heads spin...what could they have possibly wanted in that house after so many people have been in there..thanks for letting me vent.
As a former wellsville resident, i have to vent the sheer anger and furustraition I have over this entire situation. It is hard for me to find a place to begin, from the police department to the families involved to the citizens of Wellsville - a shroud of shame, lies and deception is all I can see.
I can remember growing up in Wellsville that if I did anything wrong, in a matter of minutes the whole town would know of it. Now when I try to talk to my old friends back home, it's as if everyone has nothing to say - or worst, think that this was some innocent misunderstanding. What has gone wrong with this town?
First, the crime scene was tampered with - as the police stood by, fumbling over the most mundane of legal issues (guessing from the Amato-Scarabino connection)(and on that note, who is so stupid to claim to the press, Mr Scarabino, that you drove halfway to the crime scene and then realized "Oh, that's Jack Amato's son's house, I have to remove myself from the case!" Are you really that stupid?? Are you freaking kidding me that he could not tell that 1200 Commerce has be in the Amato family for decades and he could not figure that out until he drove halfway there!!!!! And to top it off, Jeff Weekly, a fellow high school classmate of J.C Amato had been assigned to replace Scarabino - what difference does that make??? It still smacks of cover up!!!). Secondly, it takes 2 months for a homicide case to finally name J.C. Amato as a suspect, after the fact that he even admitted to shooting his wife. And his claim for shooting her, between the eyes, was self defense - one that was most likely concocted after his family was at the scene before contacting the police (cause the obvious logic here is if a crime is committed you call your dad first, figure out what to say - then call the police hours after the event occurred - yeah that sounds like Wellsville logic alright!).
I know J.C. has a lot of gun experience but to say you had to shoot someone in the head as self defense when you could easily disable a person by shooting them anywhere else withiout causing death is too much to swallow.
And to think that after all of this, at this rate no justice will be seen for the loss of Tonia's life.
Now, I don't know how the situation may have occurred, how this couple came to such a horrible outcome, but something does have to be done than letting so much time go by that any kind of a case for responsibility would have to be tossed out.
If my outburst has offended anyone, I do apologize. I just have been boiling for 2 months at the thought that in Wellsville, Ohio, having clout, money and power makes you the law of the land.
