Circus Coming To Town

It's coming Monday, May 24th to the field behind Nicholson Stadium. They'll have the Big Top, tigers, elephants, aerial acrobatics, the fun loving clowns and much, much more.

It is sponsored by the Wellsville Area Ministerial Association and proceeds go to this summer's Paint-The-Town program and other benevolent good deeds the association takes on.

It's been awhile since we had a circus in town. You won't want to miss it...

While it does support a great cause, it's a shame they couldn't hold a fund-raising event that does not exploit animals. Circus animals are often miserable and abused. It may look like lots of fun under the big top, but believe me it's not a fun life for them.

anonymous--how do you know what the animals are treated like? it has to be alot better than living in the jungle fighting for your meals. i say, go to the circus and enjoy!!

churchman - We have to agree with that. Those animals aren't free to roam but they are fed regularly and don't have to forage for their meals. If they fall ill they are taken care of. That doesn't happen in the wild.

sorry, but siding with anonymous on this one. Two things that won't ever get my money are circuses and dog tracks.

I think circuses have been bad in years gone by and am sure there are probably abuses today but with PETA, Humane Society USA and other groups, I'm sure the animals are treated better than they once were.
That said, I also have a problem with "trained" animals in some settings but will reserve judgment until I see the animals and see how they appear to be treated (and obviously you can't tell everything from that, but at least I'd like to give them the benefit of a doubt)
