Suggestion

Here's a suggestion to Wellsville's BOE for what to do with the playground equipment at the old MacDonald School building.

In the ER's "Area Briefs" column a couple of days ago it was reported that MacDonald has been sold and that the playground equipment will be kept until the board can find a new place for it. They don't need it at Garfield. They already got some at that school. There's no room for it at the Middle School and I doubt if high school kids would get much use out of it.

A few months ago the village acquired a piece of land on Wells Avenue and had the house demolished. It was reported at the time that they intended to make a mini-park on that piece of land.

Why not donate that playground equipment to the village for that little park? It would fit nicely on that piece of land. It's colorful and would help the village look a little progressive at that end of town. It certainly would brighten up that lot and I'm sure it would get some good use.

It would be a sin to put that equipment in storage when it could be put to good use elsewhere. I'm not sure but there would probably be a tax write-off for the school district and it would save the village the expense of buying stuff for that piece of real estate. I'm sure there are some young 'uns that would love to play on it. You got the jungle gym, benches and even a trash container. Personally I think it's a great idea. It would be a great token of cooperation between two entities that we tax payers support.

Think about it folks. Scratch that. Do it now while we have the labor to move and get it installed up there. The kids would love it...

Does anybody know who bought the school and if there are any immediate plans for it?

The newspaper article I referred to said the buyer is Doug Logan. I believe he is the son of either Jim or Bob Logan who were brothers and both Wellsville natives.

Nothing was said on what his plans are.

Thanks Nib, If Doug bought it, it will turn to gold for him and I am sure it will benefit the Ville.

Or they could move that playground equipment to the football field. you ever see all the kids running around that place during the games?

A good place for it would be on Riverside by the Catholic church. That equipment is crap and it is centrally located so the kids in town arent venturing up toward the highway where someone could snatch them. The equipment on Riverside is terrible. Put it there. The kids would get alot of use out of it there. I wouldnt let my daughter go all the way up towards Save a Lot to play.

Why isn't there enough room at Daw Middle School? There is an old tennis court sitting next to the school that the kids go out on during recess that has nothing on it for them to do.

the P.T.O. raised money for the playground. It should go to the middle school. They have fourth graders their that could use it. The old tennis court would be an ileal place for it.

Southern Local did the same thing sometime ago. they gave the playground equipment from the Highlandtown School to the Highlandtown Fire Department for use at the Firemans' park.
Everyone was happy with the outcome, as the kids use the equipment.

Another question did the McDonald building sell at auction or did the Wellsville board just sell it without any bidding?

It should go where all kids can use it. Can anyone use it at the Middle School? It sounds like a good spot.

What happens when baard comes? They say all these people will be coming to wellsville for employment, where are the children going to go to school? Our elementary school is filled to the max! Then we will have to build another school. I think the board should have waited on selling macdonald elementary school.

We have plenty of room in the new School, besides, Macdonald is way too old to accomodate the new age

The selling of MacDonald school was very shortsighted. Garfield school if filled to its maximum capacity. It may not be long before we will need more roon. MacDonald is a quality facility and should have been kept around a little while longer. Go ask your board members why they sold it.

MacDonald was built 53 years ago in 1955. It's an old building with definite maintenance requirements that would be a burden on the BOE. They had a new boiler ready to install before they decided to close it down. It has a flat roof and flat roofs are notorious for needing repairs frequently. It would be extremely expensive to upgrade that building to bring it up to state required standards just to make it handicapped accessible. And besides that it's not a very attractive building. With declining enrollment I think it was a wise decision by the board.

Before you go throwing stones at the board remember that it has been on the market for a couple of years. At one time the BOE set a deadline taking bids from prospective buyers. When that rolled around the submitted bids were all ridiculously low and were subsequently rejected. But they kept it on the market and apparently Mr. Logan's offer was found to be acceptable.

MacDonald served its purpose but it's time to move on.

The new high school has plenty of room. With only between 60 and 70 students gratuating every year. It is the elementary school that is filled to the MAX!!! MacDonald elementary school has already went through all of the state required standards. It even has an elevator. Right after we installed all of that, they shut her down. Everybody can understand why. A few years ago their were not enough children for both schools. Now we have plenty of children coming through the system. They have too many students in one classroom. When my grandchild started kindergarden, they had 90 kids enrolled. Now it is smaller, only because they took rhem to other schools with smaller classrooms.

Put it up in Surace's yard, so him and Saracco can play on it. The 2 kids. Don't laugh, it very well might end up there, and village workers will take it there, install it, and trim the grass arounnd it.

I guess we shouldnt laugh. It could happen. Why doesnt Joe Soldano comment on the playground equipment and the wheelchair ramp. God Bless If he wants to be mayor, he should be able to comment on little things like this, not just get on here God Blessing everything. Really take a stand. Lets hear from you Joe.

God Bless

Why should he comment on stupid crap like this. Believe me, if he runs, he will win hands down. Go to Council mettings if you want to know where he stands on things, or call him. He does not comment on stupid crap, just to start trouble. He's way better than that.

My friend Joey, we have needed someone like him as Mayor for a long time. He has more repect from Village residents, than Surace or Cataldo will ever have. I wish he could start now. You would see the dirty, sneaky, shit end. It would be like night and day. That's alright, he will be Mayor sooner then you think, mark my word.

Amen on the last 2 comments on Joey. He will be a true, honest Mayor. God bless that, fool.

I don't know if you can trust Soldano or not. He and Surace are both connected to certain people, most of us would not liked to be connected to. Big shots. They have been friends with certain big shots for years.

So what, a lot of people have Wise Guys for friends. That does not mean you can't trust them.
