Smart Move

In accounts in the morning papers of Wellsville's BOE meeting Monday night it was revealed that the WHS Athletic Dept. donated five grand to help defray the cost of transportation for sporting events. Neither of our papers gave any details on how or who made this decision. Whatever the case it certainly shows me that someone has the sense to plan ahead. I imagine those members on the board probably felt they had a winning lottery ticket.

With the cost of fuel continuing to make it's upward trend and playing havoc with budgets in all walks of life consideration for funding away games is going to be on the minds of just about every school board in the nation. Not too long ago I read an article about Edison Local trying to figure out how they are going to pay for transporting students this coming school year. Edison is reported to have one of the biggest bus routing systems in the state. The cost of fuel is a real serious concern. I can't wait to hear how Mr. Bonnell and the ELSD board will deal with this consideration. It should be a real treat.

Even though sports and even band activities are considered extracurricular I think they are a very important part of a student's life. If nothing else it hones their social graces that are very important to acquire in their learning years. It helps to teach them valuable lessons that will affect them all their lives. For some it even keeps them in school so they can participate in those activities outside of the classroom. I played high school football with a fellow that was one very tough hombre at middle guard. He dropped out of school when he turned 16. Wellsville's Jack O'Rouke was the coach at the time. Every year he would go to wherever that fellow was and drag him back to school. The guy would stick it out until the season was over and take off after the last game. He did that until he wasn't eligible for age reasons.

Kudos to the WHS Athletic Dept. You did good.

I second the kudos to the athletic dept. its pleasing to know that we apparently have someone heading that dept. that actually uses the funds for what they are intended for, the kids, unlike a previous ath. director we had who we couldnt squeeze a new jersey out of but every ten years unless one of his "great athlete" children were on the team. Thanks to the Athletic Dept.

Keep in mind that bus transportation is not required in many instances. Mom and Dad may have to transport their kids to and from school and school related events.

Quite an interesting read about the vilage animal control officer in this morning newspaper.

This is the same fella that they wanted the volunteers from St Francis to work unde after they screwed them over and basically stole their land by deception.

Karmas a bitch I tell you.

Funny that you brought St. Frances up. That story reminded me of the same & made me wonder what is going on with it? Can anybody bring us up to date on what they worked out? Last I heard they were at an impasse on how to work things out.

Apparently Mr. Hickman isn't very compassionate with the care of animals in his charge. Never heard any similar complaints when Pat Gill was alive and doing the job.

I think Hickman meant well when he first started, but got into it way over his head and sub-consciously did not give those animals and pets the total care they needed.
I truly believe he had a heart for those animals or he wouldn't have taken them home. Still it is no excuse for them not being taken care of properly.
I am going by the newspaper article. As far as animals at Hickman's,I have always seen chickens in his yard and along the roadside pecking around.Living in the country I suppose it is not out of the norm to see that.
One thing for certain is that the gang at St.Francis has always done a wonderful job in caring for the dogs that they receive.
I have stopped by there numerous times and witnessed myself the great job, the love, care and time they all put in with those animals.
Heck,Hickman even seemed nice to speak with as well.
I find it hard to believe that the Humane Society would target Mr. Hickman being that he lives in the country in a somewhat isolated area without many homes near his home.
Maybe someone wanted his job at one time? Oh well,at least some awareness has shed some light on this situation and those animals will be properly cared for
now.
As far as St. Francis and the building I would like to know the latest as well and are they still accepting donations such as dog food and blankets, etc.?
Good Luck to those people operating that shelter and good luck to Mr. Hickman. Maybe this was a wake up call for him and the village.

Listen Up !!!!

Quote -------------concerning Mr. Don Hickman.

"Never heard any similar complaints when Pat Gill was alive and doing the job."

Wanna know why ?

Because St. Francis Animal Shelter never ran Mr. Pat Gill off, or never had the friggin locks changed either when he was the DOG WARDEN !!!!!!. Oh and for the record, St. Francis Animal Shelter catered to the Humane Society animals and made (I mean demanded) Mr. Hickman take village problem dogs to the County. They would tell our dog warden to take the dogs to the county to be euthanized because there was no room in "OUR DOG POUND" due to the FACT that St. Francis Animal Shelter has every cage in use with out of the city animals that they fostered out.

I can vividly remember some of the dogs picked up in the village, had to be held in the basement of City Hall and were heard barking non stop all day long. So I would be willing to bet that Mr. Hickman has saved more dogs lives than you can count.

I would be willing to go on record with this info. You can take that to the bank.

Before you scamper off to the bank you may want to check the accuracy of your comments.

Well if you would be willing to go on record with that information your not worried about your credibility at all.... because you would be wrong.

The dogs that were housed in the basement of village hall were not placed there by Hickman, they were dogs rescued within the village by the St Francis group and were held there while repairs were being made to the shelter.

This committee became active when they noticed the dogs in the shelter were not being fed, walked, given fresh water or cared for in any way. They were left in the shelter for days/weeks at e time in freezing temps or blistering heat.

The cages became full because village residents mysteriously couldnt get ahold of Hickman so they called St Francis to do his job and they did it pretty damn well.

Look at the repairs and upgrades this group has made then tell me who has done what and who gave a shit.

St Francis has saved and placed more animals in their existance then Hickman has in his career. He sure is one hell of a good fella, I mean look at how he treats his own animals.

Basically he wasnt doing his job so St Francis stepped in and now his neglect has become a legal issue for him.

So please go on record but go get some facts first.
