Poor Excuse

At a recent council meeting Wellsville's Administrator Jim Saracco announced a handicap ramp was installed at the floodwall. Pictured above is that ramp. Looks like some of the slag and dirt have washed away in the rains we have had lately. That is the sorriest wheelchair ramp I think I have ever seen and is an embarrassment to Wellsville. In fact under the Disabilities Act I don't believe it is even legal. There is no way someone in a wheel chair could propel themself over that ledge, even if they turned around and tried to go backwards. They would have to stand up and carry the wheelchair over that mess. The way it is now it shows a serious lack of compassion for people with disabilities.

That concrete should be extended down to make the beginning level with the bricks. That other crap should be swept up and cleaned out. And that should be done immediately if not sooner.

Come on Jim, you can do better than that. What were you thinking? Were you thinking?

being a tax payer in the ville i had asked at a town meeting about fixing the curb on my block so that my 13 year old blind son could learn to walk our neighborhood to learn it like a map to get around, and nothing as of yet has been done its been a year and a half, from what i was told from the mayor himself was that there are people on the board that just dont really care and dont want to spend the money.but they will fix up the flood wall? whats up with that?

I guess that wheelchair ramp is like everything else that they do in the Village. Half assed, doesnt begin to cover the shortcomings of our Mayor and Co. I guess they would have to get sued by someone before the light bulb goes on and the they figure out that the ramp is not complete. Only 5 votes, and we could have had someone with at least half a brain for Mayor. Thank God for the volunteers we have in this Village, like the wall committee, Clean up Crew, etc. or there would be nothing done. Shame on Mayor and Co. for their lack of interest in how their own Village looks. Thanks Nib, for putting this on.

i like the big blob of cement that was left in front of the murals. It is cemented to the bricks now. I hope no one trips and breaks their neck on it. Well, if they do at least they have a great ramp for their wheelchair.

Saracco can't do any better. He is sad. Surace does not care about any blind kid needing help, he only cares about putting on a show. The ramp is par for his course, don't fix this shithole town's steets or sidewalks, but put in a half ass ramp, so you and no brain Saracco, can get your picture in the paper. As long as the two dummys, Surace and Saracco are in office, Wellsville will get no better. You have not seen anything yet. Sit back and watch these two phony fools, and just shake your head.

that is what is commonly refered to as a "hilljack ramp". You just don't see them very often so they are hard to recognize.

The Mayor told you himself that he would make sure your sidewalk was fixed. Well, there is the problem right there. You can't take his word. Go to a council meeting and ask them. It will be in the newspaper and if they don't do it they will look bad. Make sure to say the Mayor himself already promised you a long time ago to have it fixed. Your only hope is to shame them into action. Good luck to you and your son. I mean that. Also, you could call your Congressmans office and complain. That would probably do the most good.

to anonymous..why don't you go to charlie Wilson's office at city hall and see what can be done.

Anybody having buyers remorse?

Surace blames Council all the time when something goes wrong, or someone complains about something. The liar has done it since his first day in office. He takes credit for things he has nothing to do with, and believe me, anything good in the village, he had nothing to do with. It's sad, but it's the truth. He will never blame Council in front of them, only when he can behind their back. No balls, never had any, never will. Four votes, that's all, and we could have had an honest Mayor. That's okay, from what I hear, he and Saracco are on there way out. What a great day that would be. Celebrations all over town. Hell, we would not mind a picture of him on that day.

Can't Joe Soldano comment on this sidewalk issue? Joe, wake up, your people are calling. Both, at the floodwall and the Maddam that spoke on here.

Seems about all I accomplished with this article was to wake up a few of the Surace/Saracco bashers. Some are even still crying over the close election last fall. Good grief.

My goal was to get that ramp truly handicap accessible. That ledge would be a challenge even for someone pushing a wheelchair. Also, wheelchairs are difficult to navigate with surfaces made of slag. Those little front wheels go every which way on surfaces like that. Even if the handicapped person was walking with a walker or cane they would more than likely want to stay away from something like that.

One person was lamenting over the village's failure to fix up a sidewalk in their neighborhood. A few years ago we had some grant money to do such jobs. At that time some of the worse sidewalks were repaired. That grant has probably been long used up. Is there still such grants available? Truth be told sidewalks are the responsibility of the property owners. The Broadway Park folks went out and raised money that they are getting ready to use for new walks around the fountains. If someone tripped, fell and got injured on your sidewalk their attorney would be going after the homeowner or their insurance company. They would not be filing a law suit against the village.

I can sympathize with a parent of a special need child wanting the best for that young one. However, the village has limited money and has to consider what is good for the majority of our residents on what projects get accomplished. Our tax base has been eroding for years and goods and services just keep rising in price. Just look what the cost of gas & oil has done to municipal budgets all over this country. The other day there was a story in the MJ telling us about the County Engineers having to cut back on resurfacing plans this year due to the cost of oil. That certainly affects Wellsville too. Although that person has a dream to make things better for their child you really can't fault village officials for not being able to afford that individual's request. We really do need a grant writer, someone familiar with the process that can search out and apply for finances to pay for such projects.

In the meantime all I'm asking for is to correct a poorly done job and make it right. That ramp really bothered me when I saw it. My mother always told me if you're going to do a job do it right.

The truth is, both issues that are being talked about here, Surace and Saracco have control over, not Council. Nib, you know the deal, and until they are both gone, nothing will be done the right way. Also Surace will always blame Council.

The Village has wasted more money in the last four years that they could have helped out this little boy. Most of the money was spent by Saracco with Surace's blessing, can spend up to 25,000 without Council's vote. Pavilion, street signs, ordered more street signs, 3 months ago, 8,000 dollars, they are in the basement, no money to put them up. I could go on and on about the foolish spending the 2 Dummys pulled. No believe me Nib, there was money to fix a curb for this little boy.

The honest truth of the matter is, yes Surace and Saracco have spent money foolishly, but the guy who controls them and tells them what to spend money on is Tony Cataldo. Everybody at Village Hall knows this. See whatever Tony tells the two Puppets to do, they do. He spent the 21,000 on the street signs and hired his relative Billy Cataldo to install them. Then he had Saracco buy another 8,000 worth of signs, but now there's no money to install, they have been in the Vilage basement collecting dust now for months. Surace and Saracco need to act like men, both are in their 70's, and quit letting Tony control them. Now if Tony would tell them to fix the curb for that little boy, believe me it would get done. Tony can't control anybody else at Village Hall, except those 2 fools. GET SOME BALLS SURACE AND SARACCO, AND QUIT LETTING TONY CONTROL YOU, IT WILL ONLY BRING YOU DOWN FARTHER THAN YOU ARE.

I agree with Nib. This is a job poorly done and the Village should fix it. The Mayor should use his telephone and call whoever they paid to put it there to finish the job. Doesn't someone in the administration inspect work done by people hired to come into the Village and do it. Also, I agree, why can't Joe Soldono comment on this. Our council has a property committee and this is Village property. Maybe we should all start ringing the phones off the wall at Village Hall until somebody gets off their ass and fixes the problem. Lets hear from
Soldono, I think he is on the property committee.

Get rid of Tony Cataldo, he runs Surace and Saracco. They do what he tells them. He spends the money through Saracco. He is the close door DEALMAKER. If the people of Wellsville knew what crap they have pulled without Coucil's knowledge, they would die. Open door policy my ass. The doors always shut, and Surace, Saracco and Boss Man Tony, pull there dirty crap. Something has to change for a better Wellsville, that's all there is to it. Deeper and deeper Wellsville goes down the toilet. That's the truth.

I was told Rosie Goss is the property chairman. Don Brown and John McMahon are the other two members, if that tells you anything.

Anonymous said...

Well, it it is true that Tony is running things why isnt the town booming like his business. His place is a dump, doesnt make any money, and the Village is a dump and has no money. I guess that makes sense. I have no way of knowing if that is true that he tells them what to do. It looks to me like no one is doing anything. Is that what he tells them, do nothing. With all this going on, is the ramp fixed yet?

Where's Joe Soldano's comment? He reads these rags everyday.

Anonymous said...

How do you know what Joe Soldano does. Do you live with him. Don't worry he's 10 times the man Surace and Cataldo will ever be. He's honest too. Come to a Council meeting, you will find out, and ask him any question you want, I know he will answer it, and not dance around it, and studder like Surace and Cataldo.

Well if Rosie Goss is property chairman, that explains it. She is nothing but an absentee council member. She should be removed, she misses all of the meetings, except for a few. Voters will remember if she runs again. She needs to quit now, get someone who cares, and will do the job. She is a waste of time for the taxpayers. Wake up councilmen, get rid of her.

Goss has a house that has nedded torn down for years. It is one of the worst properties in town. Maybe that's why she does not do her job. She can't tell other people to clean up, or tear down their property, when she has one herself that needs torn down.
