Blessing of the Animals

Every year when the month of October rolls around so does the Feast of St. Francis, the patron saint of animals. It's observed yearly on October 4. Near the Feast day there is the Blessing of the Animals.

In a combined effort by Wellsville's Alley Cat Aid Brigade and the St. Francis Animal Welfare group this year's Blessing of the Animals took place in Hammond's Park on Saturday, October 2. Former Covenant Presbyterian Pastor, Rev. Bruce Ballantine was on hand to give the blessings. Each animal was given the blessing, a St. Francis medal and the dogs owners got a bag of home made treats.

Shown above at this year's Blessing, from the left, is Connie, Patty, Sharon, Bobbie and Rev. Ballantine. Sitting in front of them is Tag, Clyde and Gracie. Tag is a miracle dog having been nursed back to health from a canine disease that is usually fatal. Clyde is a therapy dog and Gracie was adopted from a Carroll County Rescue group.
