WHS Tigers Battle To The End

Tuesday - January 5: Wellsville lost their first one of the year this past Tuesday evening. With 2.8 seconds to go league rival McDonald hit a lay-up to break a tie, winning the game by a score of 71 - 69. Both teams were 6 & 0 coming into the game.

Although being in the lead through most of the game the Tigers were having problems getting the ball to drop, especially in the first quarter from what we saw. If a lot of the close ones we saw fell through we believe it would have been a different story. It was just an off night on the shooting. Wellsville's Lombardozzi scored the only trey for the Tigers. McDonald had eight. Although it's never mentioned in the newspapers there were some calls by the officials we had problems understanding. McDonald went to a full court press in the last of the fourth that completely stifled a last second come back by the Tigers.

Jalen DeSarro had another double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds for the game high. Jeremy Carter also had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Carter also had eight assists.

Wellsville Coach Bug Thompson was quoted in the MJ saying "I know they don't care about it as much as I do. I know that for a fact." We certainly hope that is not the case. The Tigers have to put this loss behind them and move on from there. With their speed, aggressiveness, jumping and ball handling we consider them a team to be reckoned with.

Wellsville was suppose to return to action tonight in Sebring. The girls game was cancelled last night and with school being cancelled for weather today we don't think that game will be played. Next up on the schedule is at Southern Local next Tuesday, January 12.

Good luck Tigers. You're still a team Wellsville is proud of.
