WHS Lady Tigers Drop To 1 & 3

Monday – December 12: The WHS Lady Tigers let one slip away when they hosted the Jackson Milton Lady Jays last night. Except for the two seniors in the starting line up the loss could be attributed to the lack of varsity experience. We saw a lot of forcing the ball through a host of blue jerseys, missed foul shots and not using the back board for easy lay ups.

Seniors Rilee Livolsi and Mikyla Tipton did their best. Tipton was the lead scorer for the Tigers with 28 points. Livolsi wasn't far behind with 21 of her own. Livolsi also pulled down 7 rebounds.

The Lady Tigers didn't give up and quit. They had a 69-68 lead with 2:34 left in the 4th quarter only to have it taken away in the next minute. There were several times they could have regained the lead but it seemed the bucket had a lid on it.

Final score was Jackson Milton 77-72. The loss is the third in four games for the Wellsville ladies.

The Reserves also dropped the opening game to the Lady Jays by a score of 39-31. Wellsville returns to action Thursday, December 15, at Leetonia. Tip-off for the Reserves is 6 PM.

Good Luck Ladies...

Are they still having the Basketball homecoming for the 1987 team that went to the state? I haven't seen anything in the newspaper about it. It seems since this is the team that went the farthest in girl's basketball history they should have shown the appreciation sooner and also to the coach that took the team to state. There needs to be alot of appreciation for them.

There has been about 3 different mentions in the Review in the last two weeks about the homecoming on the 21st. Swogger still had a few members of that team he was trying to get contact info on.

There is suppose to be something going on between the Reserve & Varsity games, at half time of the Varsity game and a reception following the Varsity game.

They are honoring the '87 team but all past players are invited to be part of the special night.

Trivia question - when did Wellsville have the first high school girl's basketball team? We don't & were just curious.

I went to the basketball game to see how the 1987 team was honored. such a shame that there was not a newspaper there to take pictures, you weren't even there, Nib. Randy Young has the best record in the school district, but I was amazed that they didn't even give him a plague to show how apprecitive the district is. He is the only coach that has taken his girl's team the farthest in school history. I don't remember the boy's team ever going as far as the gir's teams did, but if they did I am postive the school district would make sure the boy's coach got a plague to show their appreciation. Such a shame, the best record in the school and you don't even get a plague to keep for rememberance. no pictures for anyone to see, such a shame this wasn't planned better.

Felt sure the press would have been there. Hated to have to miss it but told the better half we were sure the newspapers would have been there.

We were playing taxi driver to from the airport. One daughter flew in from San Fran & the other daughter & husband from Florida. Both on the same night!
