Here's something that was getting "hootch2" a little nervous while getting ready for the reunion. For some unknown reason the regular fire department sat on this for nearly a week and the new banner never got put up in the Square as promised. The banner was taken to the station on June 23 and we were told it would be up by the following Saturday. Monday rolled around and there was still no banner in the square.
Hootch2 went to Village Hall, pleaded his case and by early Monday afternoon members of the Wellsville Volunteer Fire Department came to the rescue. Even a former member of the WVFD that now lives in Savannah, GA, offered his assistance. Shane Comparetta & family was in for the reunion. Joining in with Barry Podwell, Jamie McMahon and his dad Mickey, Shane was there to do what he could. By 3 o'clock those guys had the banner was in place for the festivities.
The new banner was designed by young Eric Shepherd, with the graphics tweaked by another WHS alumnus, Jeff Campbell of Campbell's Signs and sent out to be made. We did a post on the new banner on June 23. Jeff would probably have made the banner too but is not presently equipped to do signs like that.
Getting the banner in place is just one more community service the WVFD does for our village. They're noted for being a lean, mean, well trained fire fighters. Acts of kindness like this that they often perform, besides knocking down fires, often go unrecognized. Not this time. They're the greatest.
Thanks guys...
