Big Snow Early Saturday - Around 7:15

We haven't ventured off the porch yet today but you know. We will. Here's what we found this morning.

According to the Weather Man on WTOV - Channel 9, this is the biggest snow since 2003. There were reports of over 18" of the white stuff in Chester, 15" in ELO, 13" in Steubenville and 14" at West Liberty. We're predicted to get two to four more inches before it starts tapering off around noon. By 5 P.M. all the snow clouds are suppose to be out of our area.

According to that Weather Man the snow that started yesterday and fell overnight was "cement snow" - good for making snowballs and snowmen. Unfortunately it was also good for bringing down trees, tree limbs, cable lines and power lines with its heavy density. We can vouch it wasn't the light fluffy stuff. There are over 3200 in Columbiana County without power and over 3900 in Jefferson County just to mention a couple.

From the chatter on the scanner crews have been out all night clearing down trees off the roadways and checking downed lines. WVFD & WPD started in the early evening with a mess on Route 39 when a tractor trailer got stuck sideways just outside the Village limits on the bends on the hill in Yellow Creek Twp. They had to shut down the road until they could get all the cars and that truck cleared off the road way. Wellsville's Street Dept. have been at since late yesterday afternoon.

This morning we heard the WVFD crews going from one spot to another clearing trees & limbs off the roads and checking downed lines. Plus that they are pulling some vehicles out that were stuck. They are still at it. Just wanted to say a big T H A N K S to all you folks that haven't seen a warm bed since sometime yesterday morning. You're the greatest.

The National Weather Service says by the time it all clears out some places will have up to 20". It was a Nor' easter. If you don't have to go out it's best you sit tight.

Hey! Ed & Connie - you sure you want to miss all this? You can click on any of the pictures to enlarge for a better view.
