Wellsville Historical Society

Interested in some of the ville's pottery history? This coming Sunday, August 3, the Historical Society will be presenting three speakers giving the history of both the W.C. Bunting Co. and Sterling China. It begins at 2 P.M. at the Riverside Museum.

Most of us are very familiar with Sterling but some may not have heard about W.C. Bunting or remember much about it. That company got its' start in the ville. The name Bunting goes way back in Wellsville history.

The speakers are Terry O'Hara, Hugh Nile and Nick Rettos.

The museum will be open from 1 to 4:30 if you care to look around.
I don't recall where I got the picture above. I borrowed it from somewhere but I saved it. Thanks to whoever...

We recently visited The River Museum with our children one Sunday after Church Services. I had not been there since I was in about the 2nd grade or so. Its a great place to learn about the area's history. Especially when you tell your kids that they didn't have cars back then and you had to get around by horse and buggy or trolley, and they look at you like you are nuts or something. Anyway, my youngest ones came away with alot of questions and I would tell them stories that my parents used to tell me. A nice time was had by all of us, and I appreciate the Historical Society for their upkeep and hard work. Those are things that we will not find in books, and it is a good way to spend quality family time with your kids!

Well, I found out where the picture came from. It's off Susie Haugh's wellsville.net section about the Historical Society and the picture was one of Susie's. If you look closely it has her name on it in the lower right corner. I didn't notice that yesterday. I just remembered I had saved it and it went nicely with the post.

My bad. Nice picture Susie. Thanks.

Gee, the talk sounds riveting. What will they come up with next to entertain people.

Opinion - Were you having a bad hair day yesterday?

I thought it was interesting and entertaining. The price was right and I appreciated the Historical Society for putting it on.

Not every activity in our village is put on for everyone. As Abe Lincoln said you can please some of the people some of the time, etc. You make me think you're not too interested in our roots. Pity.

Read the Morning Journal's Sunday story about vacationing in the county. It includes lots about the River Museum.

Just my opinion and I am not being mean, but I think something needs to be done with that old fire station as it is quickly becoming another eye sore. It is nice to have these presentations but preserving the past also means taking good care of what remains. Surely the historical society can afford a paint job for that wonderful old building and some repair work. The fllood wall artist could even do murals of the old firemen and fire trucks. It could be a source of pride instead of another neglected building. Just my opinion and I mean no harm.

I am very interested in our roots.
Just look at the floodwall. I am very active with that. I guess it is the H.Soc that doesnt thrill me. To each his own. My hair was just OK looking yesterday. Not great by any means, just OK. That could be the problem.
