3rd Annual Dash for Mat's Bash Saturday In Wellsville

It's time for the 3rd Annual Dash for Mat's Bash. Saturday, October 15, at 5:30 PM will kick off the fun 1.5 mile run/jog/walk/watch event in front of the Wellsville Fire Station. Volunteers for the annual fund raiser will be on hand at the Fire Station for late, last minute registrations from 3 to 5:15 PM. Anybody registered is automatically entered into the drawings for the door prizes. Topping off the door prizes is a 42 inch flat screen television. There will be a special event for children 9 years old and under. Halloween costumes are encouraged. Pre-race entertainment begins at 4 PM.

Trophies for competitors will awarded to the top five runners for both males & females in the age 12 and under brackets and also to those over age 12. There will be 20 trophies total awarded. The run begins at 12th & Main, goes to 9th and crosses over to Riverside, up to 5th, back over to Main and back to 12th. Traffic will be blocked off for the event and bottled water will be available for the runners. Emergency personnel will be on hand just in case.

The annual dash is one of the fund raisers supporting the memorial scholarships awarded to Wellsville High School graduating athlete/scholars at Class Day. In the last two years $1,000 scholarships were awarded to one male and one female senior class member. The scholarships are in memory of the late Mathugh Johnston, a 15 year old lad that died four years ago after waging a heroic battle against cancer.

Mathugh loved sports. He's our angel in the end zone...
