Wellsville has two basketball teams that are undefeated on the season. The Daw Middle School 8th Grade boys and the WHS Freshmen. Monday's Freshman game is the last of the season. The 8th Grade boys travel to Leetonia on Monday and wrap up their regular scheduled season at home on Wednesday. Good luck to both teams.

The Wellsville Council Street Committee cancelled their Monday meeting. The reason for the meeting has been taken care of by the WPD. There was no reason given for the Personnel Meeting to be held Tuesday. The notice said "Executive Session will be held". We have been unable to get in touch with the Personnel Committee Chairman to correct that non-compliance to the Sunshine Law.

The nice ladies at the Wellsville Public Library are resuming Story Hour this coming Tuesday. It will be a weekly, free event for the children through April 26.

The monthly meeting of the BOE has been moved up a week and switched to this Tuesday. President Tom Brophey said there is a schedule conflict for next week.

See our post dated February 3 about the PPCT meeting coming Tuesday evening. It's an organizational meeting to get started renovating the old Liberty Theater. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. It's been a long time coming with the economy being as it is. Any and all kinds of help will be needed for this very worthwhile community project.

Now we must go and prepare for Super Bowl XLV. Good Luck Steelers!

Have a good week, everybody...

what do you mean non-compliance to the sunshine law?

It is our understanding that the Sunshine Law requires a reason for an Excutive Session that is a little more specific than just "personnel". The citizens have a vested right to know what is going on with the Village government. Personnel is an ambiguous phrase that can cover a wide range of subjects from negotiations, hiring, firing, out sourcing, etc.,etc... For example if it was stated that an Executive Session will be held for possible discipline of an employee the requirements would have been met. Everyone would know what is being discussed in more than just general hints that three Council members are going to hold a Committee meeting. From our understanding that is what we meant by "non-compliance".

Actually, there's no requirement for stating the reason in the notification, except when a "special" meeting is called. This is a regular meeting of the committee (since it has no established meeting date).in fact they aren't even required to say in the notification that an executive session will be held. They ARE required to state the reason AT the meeting when they vote to enter executive session.

We stand corrected although we consider it relevant if they are saying "Executive Session" in the pre-meeting notice. It's a minor point in our opinion.
