Wellsville Needs You

“There's a job for everyone and no one will be turned away” as PPCT Board Member Erin Roberts-Orr issued an open invitation at last week's Chamber luncheon to everyone interested in seeing the historic Liberty Theater renovated. There will be all kinds of jobs available to turn this shell of a building into a community cultural center that will be one of the prides of Wellsville.

As promised back before the holiday season began, the members of the Potter Players Community Theatre group is going to hold an organizational meeting to get the renovation started. Orr noted it is not something the PPCT can do on their own. They are spearheading the renovation efforts but it is a community project that will benefit the whole Wellsville area. With everyone pitching in it will be a jewel on the ville's Main Street. Everyone is invited to attend and join in.

The meeting will take place next Tuesday evening, February 8 at 6 PM at the PPCT Playhouse at 417 15th Street here in Wellsville . For more information you can contact Orr at 330-532-1569 or 330-692-2037. Her e-mail address is erob1986@hotmail.com.

It's an exciting project for everyone young or not so young to be part of...

Nib, I'm curious, will the WRC be involved?

We're not sure what the Wellsville Revitalization Committee plans. We certainly hope they do partake. It's a community project that needs all Village orgnaizations to pitch in and cooperate.

Thanks for getting this out there for us! We are so excited to get the ball rolling, and we hope everyone that is interested in supporting a community project will attend. We are looking forward to working with various groups and citizens to make this dream a reality. We hope to see everyone on the 8th.

Erin - It was our pleasure. We're hoping the Play House will be SRO next Tuesday. We have many fond memories of the Liberty from our childhood. Getting the old place renovated and reopened for all kinds of cultural events is the dream of many, ourselves included. There's enough talent and know how available in the Wellsville community to get this job accomplished and we're thinking it will be done in a first rate fashion. It's a challenge that everyone will some day be able to say "I help get 'er done". Like Scott Shepherd said "it's a gem in the rough".

For the record,
WRC was not sent an invitation or
an e-mail to attend this meeting.
Also, they were never contacted again by President Kim Winkleman as to wether the Board would allow them to attend seminars on the theatre. I don't think they are as all inclusive as they pretend.

It was announced in the newspapers and on here. What more do you need???

Are you digging for excuses?

hey Nib! Thanks for coming last night to the Community Informational Meeting on the renovation of the Liberty. We had a good turnout of people from various groups as well as well as individuals and everyone who spoke to me on their way out was positive. Lots of good suggestions and thoughts and plans!

Next activity will be the "walk through" open to all interested groups/individuals on Sat Mar 19 at the Liberty at 10AM. Well, not quite "all". No one under 18 years of age can be in the building due to insurance issues. But if you are over 18, have WARM clothes (no heat in there!!), have sturdy boots/sneakers (don't show up in fancy shoes, folks!!) and it wouldn't hurt to bring a flashlight to look in the nooks and crannies with, then meet us there! Just as the meeting was advertised in the papers, on Facebook, here, on our PPCT website, etc, this "walk through" will also be advertised and again it is an open invitation! The more people that are willing to help, the better the project!!

If anyone has any questions, contact Erin Orr or Bill Roberts.

Thanks again, Nib!

Mary - we're going to publish your post here and again when I get to a new one about the meeting. Thanks for your comment.

We too sensed an encouraging note of enthusiasm at Tuesday's meeting. Seeing the mix of people that came was exciting. For us it was a little surprising with some of the attendees, pleasantly surprising. We left with the feeling this is going to get done, not overnight but it is going to happen. That's great!
