One Step Forward - Two Steps Back

Lets get back to things concerning the ville. We're just about caught up on the newspapers.

Here's an item that got me out of my writing fugue since coming back to the cold temperatures and snow. In this morning's papers were stories about an alleged non-existent Italian American War Veterans Post 25, aka "Liquor Dick's", up in East End. According to that organization's National Commander the charter for Post 25 was rescinded about 10 years ago for lack of membership. There is no Post 25 and has not been one since then. The liquor license for that bar is in the name of Post 25 and the paper work for the license names Jim Saracco as president for Post 25. Saracco told the MJ reporter that he quit a "long time ago" but it makes one wonder. Saracco is our Village Administrator. The National Commander wants them to shut the doors and said he will pursue the matter until that business disassociates themselves as being part of that veteran's organization. According to both newspaper stories it ain't exactly legal to have a liquor license for something that doesn't exist. Liquor Dick's is getting a nuisance bar reputation up there. With past incidents the death knell has already started ringing for them with the city. This may be the final blow, especially if the state gets involved.

I have many questions about this but the only one I'll ask for now is: where was the now defunct Post 25 located?

It just makes you go hmmmm...

Fact is,Saracco is a all around stooge. He knew his name was on the board of the fake club. He got caught up in something, so the first thing to do is lie. That's our great administrator. Once a dummy, always a dummy. He must like being a stooge, in village government, and in public life.

Saracco can't be honest with village council, so what makes you think he will be honest anywhere else. When you get caught, don't lie Saracco, at least try to be truthful, if not for yourself, for your family. Surace, what the hell is wrong with you, why do you keep this joke in office? Council, do something about this joke, what an embarrassment to the Village.

Can Council legally do anything except put up with Saracco?

The Italian American War Veterans Post 25 was where Liquor Dick's is now, on Pennsylvania Avenue in East End.
The sign is still over the door.

I was told by a former Council member, that back when Council was trying to remove Tom Edgell from the Administrator position, that you need 4 yes votes if the Mayor agrees to get rid of him. You need 5 yes votes if the Mayor is not in favor of getting rid of him. Council can get him out of office no matter what the Mayor says, but you need those 5 yes votes. When our Council people will wake up and get the idiot out of office, only time will tell.

Hard to believe that anyone would want to be involved with something with a name like that..much less someone involved in village politics..sad.

who does ole nib endorse for president?

I don't think the anonymous post about being involved with a name like that, was not talking about the name of the club, but rather the name of the person who runs the club. I got that, I bet a lot of other people did too.

"...involved with name like that"?

Hopefully anonymous will clarify this comment, but my interpretation of the comment was it related to the name "Liquor Dick's", not "Italian American War Veterans.'

I'm curious, did the comment refer to the name of the bar now, Liquior Dicks, or the Italian name on it?

Get real! I meant getting involved with a place called "Liquor Dicks". I was pretty shocked with your response. It never dawned on me that anyone would think I was refering to anything other than the blatant sexual connotation of the name Liquor Dicks.

My apologies. I never once thought of the name "Liquor Dicks". I was open mouth - insert foot when I responded to that. Thanks for the clarification,

Well the commander forgot to put in the paper that his office is the one that sends papers to the liquor control board every year letting them know who to issue a license to. Without that paper you dont get a license. As for the reputation of the bar, i challenge anyone in this room to come up with any violations against the bar except for one charge of serving a non member

You should all get ur minds out of the gutter. The man that is there alot overseeing things name is dick. Just remember that if u read it in the paper doesn't make it gospel. they want to sell papers, look into things before you comment

The perception that Liquor Dicks is derogatory and not simply the fact that "Liquor" is sold by a man named "Dick", can only be construed by a vulgar public who perceives it as derogatory. Any interpretation is based on how the receiver receives it without giving thought of how the omitter omits it! Those of you who see it as derogatory must have a pretty vulgar mind!

EDUCATED citizens do what they can to HELP their civic leaders, not make disparaging and slandering remarks about them. Slander is against the law. I see numerous law suits within these comments and it's not difficult to figure our who's writing what. It is YOUR responsibility to assist your civic leaders in finding solutions to problems. You have a complaint? You better have a solution with it. If not, you have no right to complain. The people making remarks about Saracco have obviously NEVER worked for a Fortune 500 company because this type of behavior would never be tolerated. You wouldn't have a job! Your actions speak for themselves ~ do something productive with your time and help.....don't hinder!
