Kudos To The Future Voters of Wellsville

I feel I would be remiss if I didn't congratulate the Future Voters of Wellsville Club before calling it a day. I must first apologize. Like Joe Surace I couldn't be there but I wanted to be. I'm sure Joe wanted to be too. He knows our future is in your hands. Also like Joe I asked someone to attend in my place. I wanted to get an impartial take on the proceedings.

From what I hear you members of the FVW Club can stand proud. You did something that none of us could convince anyone else in the ville to do. No one but you all took the opportunity to host this event. I previously suggested the Chamber-of-Commerce, the organized political parties or even the Alumni Committee do something like this. My buddy told me everything went smooth as silk and instead of being a first time venture it went off as if you guys have been doing this for years. I hope it was a learning experience for you. I don't care who your candidate is it was a learning opportunity for us all just for the fact that we got a chance for the different candidates to let us in on their platforms and visions.

I heard that the mayor couldn't be there because he was up in the "pool" rubbing elbows with the big shot from Baard. I hope you don't berate him for that. At this point in our village history Baard Ind. is a very hopeful and promising figure in our future. For quite sometime now Wellsville has been dying on the vine with the decline of first one industry after another drying up and closing shop. The prospect of Baard locating just outside our village is a dream coming about to give the ville a shot at survival.

I've been told that the mayor twisted his daughter Carrie's arm to attend your event in his place. I'm sure that took some serious convincing. I don't think I would have allowed to be put on the spot like that for my father if I were in her shoes. My buddy said she did an admirable job and was very honest with her responses. In my opinion she should be given an "attagirl" just for showing up.

From reading the article about your event in The Review a lot of the candidates spoke of the appearance of our village. Tony Cataldo said it could be possible to appropriate money for a demolition fund. Randy Allmon said fines need to be written into the Dangerous Homes ordinances. John McMahon wants to get as many streets as possible paved. Joe Soldano said the first thing people look at in our village is the buildings and the streets. None of them offered an idea on how they would finance anything. You can have ideas galore but when it is all said and done you still have to have a way to pay for it. That's part of politics that most candidates like to skim over. They don't want to tell us it's either going to be a tax increase, a grant application for "free" money or some hard budget crunching. However, that's all part of this thing they call politics. It goes on in all levels of government. You folks probably already realized all this without my bringing it up. Sorry to prattle on.

Again I would like to say the members of the FVW Club should be proud of themselves for undertaking this event. It gives us old timers hope for the future. Congratulations. Great job.

I hate to correct you, but I was there when the Mayor called Kerry and asked her if she could attend for him. She said yes right away. I was proud of her and so is he. She really didnt hesitate. I would have, bud she didnt.

I think the future voters was put together by the lloyd people useing this girl. I am sure it will dissolve into nothing now that they got to do their little(and I mean little) dog and pony show.

You are right. It was not well attended, only 4 of the 10 students in the group even attended. It certainly didnt take priority over the Baard Dinner. Trashman is as usual wrong on the whole issue. The entire event was difussed by the Mayors daughter and some of his supporters showing up. The Lloyds didnt expect that. Therefore, Joe didnt get hurt, and Lloyd didnt win any points. If you post over there he just insults you anyway, so why bother. Besides, I am not a professional blogger like him and wiz so I can't go on such a powerful and influential site until I go to blog school.

The article said, Soldano said he is working with the Fire Chief to tear down buildings. He said at the Candidate night, that they have sent out at least 15 letters to people with old dilapidated property. He said he is trying to establish a demolition fund. He said he will continue to work with Fire Chief Smith to get the Village cleaned up, so maybe people will want to buy homes here, and business will come in. The other guys are working hard also to better Wellsville.

I have something to share that was quite surprising to me. It happened at my home last night. I will not be posting this on ORL as I am boycotting, but wouldnt anyway. My daughter had friends over last night and they were having quite a conversation about what the still call the pinworm. Apparentlly, these kids go on ORL all the time and post on any number of subjects. And they do it quite often. They showed me some of their post and I was stunned as I always thought these were adults. They have been recently on the Future Voters. They particularly got a charge of of Doug's rant against adults picking on his daughther. The hate Matt, and the funny thing is, it is because of his negativity about Wellsville. I kid you not, this is all true, and you would die if you read some of the posts. They even informed me how they try to sound adult. They are taking up some room on ORL. They comment on the Election constantly, none of them were for Lloyd, although only one can vote. I was just shocked that the kids are so into this. They said some were interested in the Future Voters, but were told by the girl, it was her club and only Lloyd supporters were welcome. That caused the problems for her at school. Also, they said one of the 4 kids that attended was from East Liverpool. They saw right thru the whole thing from the beginning. I guess kids are just paying attention and understanding alot more than I thought. By the way, they dont even know about this site. Yeah, I guess Matt does have quite an audience, and even high school kids dont like what he is doing.

I'm sorry but I wanted to add a couple things. These kids, all of whom were not at my house, have strong opinions on Ed Wilson, The Amato murder and anything else Matt writes concerning Wellsville. It is amazing, because I never heard them talking about ORL, or the pinworm as they say, before. Also, apparently Matt has an open invitation to practice with the football team. In closing, Matt, when the Wellsville Hight School kids are after you, I guess you've arrived. You should be proud of yourself, for the great example you are showing our kids. From what I heard, they like their town, and are happpy with alot of the nice things going on here. You are a great Role Model. I know one thing, it sure made me think.

Shocked,

I am happy to see that the young kids are interested in the future of Wellsville. That is great. I hope they continue what they are doing.

I have been reading ORl for a very long time and I have read some thing on that site that was totally unbelieveable. He has tried to clean it up, made changes and has gone as far as going over the comments beofre posting them because some of the comments are just don't need to be posted. And it was working. But until this election came along it seem things were ok until that Surace survey was posted on another website. That was when things started to go bad. I would see Ole Nib posting comments on Matts site and he made great sense on what he was saying. But this election has show whom was for whom and it was very obvious what site was supporting the canidates.

Part of Matts frustration is Suraces not stepping up to the plate and not answering questions that should be answered that the people of wellsville are asking, not all but some of the people. I just think things got way out of hand. Wellsville is divided even more. Even when BAARD does come to Wellsville will not mend what has already been said. I am sorry but that is just the way I feel. This election has ripped the village apart. And I am also sorry that the kids are experiencing all the negativity that comes from election time but.

I like Matt's site as well as this one. I enjoy reading the comments and I don't care one way or another who whether someone likes me or not. Life is way to short to let politics run my life and lose friends, good friends. I do care about who is going to run my government because if we elect them to office they should be honest enough to tell us the truth instead of hiding behind their political party. Tell us the truth, be open and honest with us.

I am sorry that you and some of these kids, I mean young adults are feeling hurt and bitter about Matt's site. I do enjoy it because for the most part the topics and comments make sense. Maybe when the election is over things will get back to normal. Maybe.

Ole' Nib, I don't know who you are and I do not know Matt, but i like both sites. It is just a damn shame that things came this far to where the mudslinging went by the way of internet. Surace should have answered the question on the survry and Lloyd should have continued to vote, regardless how he felt. There are alot of people in the Ville who do not vote because of how he felt. When I move back to the ville I will vote, regardless on how I feel about the vilage gonvernment.

It is very true about some kids wanting to join future voters and being told NO it was only for lloyd supporters. I guess you never know what kids are thinking. They seem so self-absorbed but then they can really surprise you. Anyway, all should have been allowed to participate.

Who was the kid from East Liverpool...matt Stewart?

Anonymous said...

mats site does not look like he has tried to clean it up. Looks like the same old trashing going on. Notice he doesn't trash his mayor so he won't lose his liason position. E.L. is the same hole it was 4 years ago when Swogger took office. Why not use the most influential site in the Ohio Valley to do something for your own town. Why not try to get some decent leadership in E.L.? Must be easier and safer to take pictures of the alleys and compare it to England.

East Liverpool already has good, honest government, and we’d like to keep it that way.

As for the Suracers boycotting ORL, we all know that isn’t true. Even if it was, nobody cares, least of all me. The reason you’re not making so many comments is that you always lose the arguments, so it’s understandable.

Those of you who are posting ridiculous lies here about the kids involved in the Future Voters are nothing short of pathetic. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. What you don’t realize is that you’re actually turning people against your candidate, who by the looks of things needs all the help he can get.

Instead you should look to Ole Nib as an example. His piece on the Future Voters is reasonable and graceful. Regardless of what the Suracers say, Nib knows that I respect his work, and even when we disagree on important issues, I admire his abilities as a writer and thinker. Our area needs as many articulate voices as we can get, and I’m glad we have Nib’s in Wellsville, regardless of which candidate he supports.

Anonymous said...

I admire ole nib's writing abilities also. I don't admire yours because they are usually just insults and put-downs, like your last post. If anyone should be ashamed it should be you. Boy, you have some brazen nerve ever telling anyone they should be ashamed. It should be funny, but it is just pathetic and sad.

Come on guys... I try not to deal in rumors and strive to be fair. I was a devoted Pinworm reader and I continue to check ORL regularly. Matt has some good material and definitely brings a different view to light on the politics in our place we call home here in the ville. We may not agree on that but we have agreed to let each other voice their opinion.

The high school students that formed the FVW Club are to be commended. If they made it a clique..well shame on them and their advisor. Aside from that the idea of the club was exciting for me. How many of us have stereotyped our young adults as self centered and absorded in their own world? From the comments made here it is apparent that some are surprised to learn that they have a mind and feelings about what goes on in their community. For the most they do pay attention and keep atuned to what goes on around them. I found out with my children it is important to let 'em express themselves and to listen to them. Their education starts at home. There are some stinkers out there but then again there are some thinkers too. Some of those thinkers get involved and we don't want to discourage that. As the years pass they will learn the meaning of fairness, what needs to be done and what they can or can not do. Learning that our democracy revolves around politics and our greatest source of power is at the polls is an important step in the right direction.

Okay, that last comment was completely uncalled for and obscene. Between the obscene, uncensored spouters on here and Matt Stewart's asinine postings, I can't see why anyone would want anything to do with the village of Wellsville.

I feel that it is time that I spoke up about everything being said in regards to myself. I only started this ORGANIZATION, even though many of you call it only a “group”, because I felt that I had a good idea. It was only started after Mr. Meek said that his schedule was too packed with his coaching job in Weirton and that he didn’t feel he’d have the full amount of time needed to devote to such an event like this. I put many hours into this along with working 20 hours a week and maintaining no less than a 3.9 GPA in school. Obviously none of you or your children knows me very well because I would never come across as self-absorbed.

All of you people, whoever you may be, that keep saying that I said that the group was only for “Lloyd supporters” are all so full of it, it’s amazing. You all can tell your parents whatever you want to tell them, but unless your parent heard it first hand then I guess they don’t know the facts now do they? And I also made the announcement in my 5th period study hall a few weeks before the event saying that anyone who wanted to be involved with the planning and wanted to be there should be more than welcome to attend. I had several people say that they would be there and none of them but the other 3 students I had by my side bothered to show up. So why even bother? Many of these students who are “oh so interested” in these politics should probably should have paid more attention to my announcement in study hall after many of the boys in my study hall made the comment that they’d be there and that they’d tell there friends. The organization was talked about openly amongst my friends and I, and several people asked questions and were fully aware of the goings on of this event. Also, might I add that some of these students were not able to attend because of football practice and other prior engagements to work. Also, one of my members was very ill. These were students that actually bothered to pay attention instead of having the time to sit around and make up rumors.

And as far as this “East Liverpool student” that you are talking about, I suppose you should know all the facts first don’t you think? He happens to have come from Beaver Local then transferred to Buckeye Online School for Success, then recently transferred to Wellsville Local Schools. Yes, it is true that he is not a Wellsville voter nor is he old enough to be, but it doesn’t matter the organization was open to any local Wellsville students with an interest in politics. Everyone has the right to learn how the political system works. Because many of the students that attend Wellsville High School do not live within the village and cannot vote in village elections. Most of them have to vote elsewhere and do not have a say in the village elections. Also, there is at least one issue (The Robert Bycroft Levy) on the ballet that is county wide. So my question to all of you is, what does it matter who was there, as long as they were a student of Wellsville High School. Like I have stated before, everyone was given an equal opportunity to attend.

And I’d really love to know where you are getting that I’ve had troubles at school. No one has said a thing to me about any of this so I’d say that once again, people don’t know the true facts. So to all you accusitory people know the facts before you post and have the guts to sign your name or don't make accusations.

Amanda --
I guess you've done a lot of growing up through all of this. When you put yourself out there, it's not like getting good grades or doing something your parents are going to like. There are going to be people who are mad at you, people who don't understand you and people who will spread gossip about you. It's not fair but that's what happens.

Oh please, your making my stomach churn. As far as Mayor-my-arse is concerned that post needs to be taken the hell off. These are the lloyd supporters and they are a nasty lot that will turn this site into a dumpster. It figures they would use that kind of language..that is what they are most obsessed about. How is that picture on orl selling? Maybe Swinger magazine will buy it.

A long time ago, former Mayor Nunzio told me (in regard to him and an opponent not agreeing), "We can disagree without being disagreeable," and I have always thought that was a very good attitude for a politician.

Stay over on ORL with the vulgar remarks. You don't have to show us how low you can sink..we already know you are morally bankrupt.

Anonymous said...

Amanda - Thanks for taking the time to respond. My compliments to you. Even without your explanation it was very obvious you and your fellow members put a lot to time and thought into organizing that event. For Lord's sake don't let the negative comments discourage you. You'll get them but just let it roll off your back. You did good for such a busy lady and I am proud of your efforts and skill to organize such an event. Are you sure you want to go into P.T.? You display some talented abilities for a career in political science. Whatever your endeavors good luck to you. Keep up the good work.

Amanda,

That was very nicely put. In order to set people straight you have to let them know what is up and not let it eat away at you. I think it is wonderful that you did start this organization but like in all organizations it doesn't grow over night. Just keep plugging away at it. At least you and some of your friends are doing something worthwhile with your time that is very positive.

I assure you, I am not lying about the kids on ORL. I am sure this is not something you like to hear, but it is very true. I swear this on my daughters life. And I would not do this if it were not true. I do not lie, and I resent you saying that. You have to live with things you dont like, like anyone else. And you have a bunch of Wellsville High School students on your site f ing with you. Deal with it. Dont call others liars. I would have no reason to make this up. I myself was shocked. Welcome to the world of blogging assshole. Why dont you take the football team up on their offer.

I have a question. Is future votes a club that will exist after this year. Or when Amanda graduates is this club history. I am curious as to whether this was just for election time, or is it to be continued.

I agree with an earlier post. Kids do get on here, and ORL. I know it is a wasted effort to as Trashman to clean it up, but thanks Ole Nib. It is appreciated.
