Vandals Strike Again

No, it's not pictures of the big snow storm of 1950. The white fluffy stuff you see in the pictures are the result of mentally deficit vandals trying to ruin some of the village's show case spots. Sometime yesterday or over night soap was dumped into the fountain nearest 5th St. in Broadway Park. Just after day light this morning it had people stopping in the street. They were hesitant to drive through the stuff not really sure what it was at first. Thankfully there were no accidents with most of those people on their way to work in the early hours.

This was just talked about at last night's Council Meeting. Police spokesmen advised they are doing some extra patrolling of the area but they can't be there all the time. They asked the Broadway residents be extra vigilant and to call in any suspicious activity right away. The number to call is 330-532-1522. A description of the perpetrator/s would be excellent. Even a license number or vehicle description would be good if they're using a car. It would probably only take one bust to put an end to this kind of misdeed.

It's not funny. These pimple brained individuals are trying to ruin it for the rest of us that appreciate the beauty of these antique fountains. They're a nice touch that helps make the ville some place special. The nimrods that did this are selfish, stupid and inconsiderate.

Village Street workers had the mess cleaned up by early afternoon. Wish I could catch just one of the juvenile thinking people who did it.

Just one...

For one I think this is the least of the worries in the town. I believe this was just a harmless prank, Everyone is so worried about making the town better with the fountains and trees on Broadway and the flood wall. But no one seems to acknowledge the lime green eyesore on Commerce Sreet with the trash hung on the front of the bulding. The bubbles have went away but the lime green building in town will remain there for the residents of the town and people visiting. So if you are so worried about this you should also do something about the lime green building which makes the town look terrible.

What about the pimple brained people building green houses and hanging bicycles from the building. How terrible and trashy does that look.

It really amazes me the lack of disrespect people have nowadays...the vandalism, the theft..and if you go into a couple of stores even around Wellsville the rudeness of people..especially the workers...WHATS WRONG WITH PEOPLE TODAY

To the person commenting on the fountain. Do you have anything better to do! Instead of worrying about catching someone doing a harmless prank why not have citizens patrol for the drug dealers and crack heads that run rampant in our town. Are you aware that our town is over run with drugs and drug dealers and you are complaining about a fountain. Get your head out of the sand! Selling crack in front of the antique fountains is more offencsive than watching the bubbles come out of it.

I have lived here all my life and i totally agree such vandalism must be stopped

Really? You really think the WPD should devote time and resources to bringing these "criminals" to justice when they have only so much in the way of time and manpower? BTW Didnt the bubbles eventually dissipate themselves with the passage of time and raindrops? What exactly was "vandalized" (damaged)?

HARMLESS PRANK....i dont think so what if that harmless prank busted the pump..is it a prank then....WHAT IS YOUR DEFINITION OF VANDALISM...ASK the residents that live on that street that the suds got all over their property if it was a harmless prank.....VANDALISM IS NEVER A PRANK NO MATTER HOW YOU LOOK AT IT.....THATS WHATS WRONG WITH PEOPLE WHEN THEY THINK VANDALISM (WHICH IS A CRIME) IS OK....DRUGS AND VANDALISM AND THE MENTALITY OF PEOPLE IS WHAT MAKES A TOWN LOOK BAD.

The lime green building you are referring to ...looks better than the fountain when it was full of bubbles..now that looked tacky..and the building looks better than what it did....broken windows..vandalized..atleast someone is putting it to good use

Wooo lets everyone make a big deal out of NOTHING. I agree with the drug problem and the corrupt "cops" are the things that need to be brought to attention.

Some people are so damn narrow-minded. In regard to the "lime green" building, that paint was DONATED so was used graciously. And the whimsical folk art on the front is wonderful. You are just too stupid to understand it.

Lighten up Nib.
These are pranks and nothing more.
BTW the cops are too busy trying to catch speeders on SR 7 to try to catch kids having some innocent fun.

A harmless prank ? I think not. What ever happen to respect for property that didnot belong to you?
Sure the soap suds did go away but what about the damage to the pumps in the fountain and the time the village workers had to put in to clean up the mess. I suppose breaking of the lights at the 18th street playground is a "prank" too.

Fortunately, that obviously heavy dose of soap, did not harm anything. If it hadn't been for village employees cleaning it out it would probably still be bubbling. Making light of it is not the proper thing to do. Some may consider it a "harmless prank". I think it's destroying a lot of hard work done to make improvements.

Picking on the appearance of the green building is a cheap shot by some juvenile thinker. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think it's unique and think those that created it should be commended for their efforts. It's an art form displayed on that building that obviously some don't appreciate. Some of those need to broaden their horizons. Momma always told me if you can't say something nice then it's best to keep your mouth shut.

I wonder why the alley-cat people would make the connection between vandalism and drugs? Drugs are everywhere, not just Wellsville. Unfortunately Wellsville does seem to be the only town that has a whole group of people that want the cats to take over. I find it appalling that when someone can't argue their point, they always seem to bring drugs into the argument.

THAT LIME GREEN BUILDING IS HORRIBLE LOOKING AND TO U FOLKS WHO DONT THINK SO ,,,NEED YUR EYES CHECKED .......PEOPLE FROM OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICTS CAME INTO TOWN AND SAW AND WERE LAUGHING ABOUT IT ,,, WHEN THEY CAME INTO SCHOOL .... WHAT THEY SHOULD DO WITH IT ROUND UP ALL THESE STRAY CATS AND PUT EM IN IT .....

I think the main problem in the 'ville is lack of jobs and money. There are drugs everywhere, but they aren't as noticeable when there are jobs and prosperity.

I'm with you Nib! The GREEN building they are speaking of is a work of art. Those ladies took something that was an eyesore and created something that makes people look at it longer and think about it. Whether you appreciate it or not, it makes one think beyond "that building needs torn down". That neighborhood was known as the "murder" neighborhood, so they have taken something and given us another thing to identify that neighborhood with.

On the fountains. If they village had to pump out all the water and replace it with fresh, then it cost the taxpayers money!

Is this the same town that allows relatives of village office holders using tax money to build no-bid projects? Using rotten wood?
That police force is usually stationed on the 4 lane highway that goes thru town?
That has taught their children that the quickest way to money is to drag out the blue barrels and beg?
That has a higher murder rate than Youngstown?
And you are concerned about putting soap in a fountain?
Yeah that sounds about right!!

What's the matter, Nib? Cat got your blog?

cat napper..do you even know what in the hell you are talking about? You should just be happy that you don't have to take an IQ test before you get on the computer.

No, the cat didn't get my tongue. Just got tied up in something else and didn't have time. I'm back at it and trying to catch up.

Yes, it cost the village some money to clean up the fountain mess. That water had to be pumped out and repumped a second time after rinsing it out. Then it was refilled.

Was it some one doped up on illicit drugs that perpetrated the vandalism? We'll probably never know unless someone makes a deal to get out of some other trouble.

So, other school districts laughed at the funky art? So what? At least it got their attention even if they show an intolerance of different art forms. That just shows that they are young and inexperienced. It's unique to the ville but not to someone who has traveled farther than their back yard. Maybe when they grow up they'll learn there is something other than Norman Rockwell paintings that make up the art world. Look at the millions St. Louis spent on the abstract art called the Arch.

Rounding up the stray cats & putting them in one building? That's really an intelligent statement. The ACAB ladies are doing all they can to humanely control the stray cat problem with their trap, spay/neuter & release program. It's not going to happen overnight and it takes a lot of money. Although bothersome to some cats are one of God's creatures. The people that have them as pets and don't bother to have them fixed is the problem. Maybe someday when the St. Francis folks get a shelter they can work out a deal with ACAB to take the strays that have gone through the TNR. Adopting a fixed cat would save the expense of having it done by responsible people.

It saw in the paper that Randy Allmon said that everyone in town should start sprucing up their properties to show Baard that the town is a nice place to live. What about the houses that have been abandoned? Who takes care of them? Who cuts the grass? I have seen a couple of those houses and the grass has never been cut this year, I thought the town was supposed to be cutting the grass and sending the owners a bill. I have seen the yard at 708 Broadway, it is a disaster, especially the back yard. The grass is at least 2 feet high and garbage in the back. The neighbors have to put up with that, at least I saw that the neighbors on each side have mowed some of the grass next to their property. Such a shame that they have to take on such a task. Doesn't the village have an ordiance about keeping the grass cut on your property? If not, then they need to get one. Their are 2 neighbors that are trying to keep up with the grass at their own house and know they have to mow some of their neighbor's. And what will they get out of it, nothing. Or if someone does mow the grass, probably broken windows because who knows what is in the tall grass especially with all the garbage in the back yard. I don't think all of the council members, the mayor and the street workers have avoided driving on Broadway, there is no way that house is avoidable to look at.
