Just A Few Comments

Went up to talk to Dexter Thrasher last week to see what kind of response he was getting for the T-ball registration. Although he only had about 25 names when I was talking to him he tells me last year they had around 80 kids play. Dexter said it's not unusual for about half of them show up once the season starts in June. It's been that way for the last three years he has run the program. The T-ball league is open to both boys & girls from anywhere in the area. Although it is an organized activity they don't get too serious about scores. Their goal is to provide an activity for kids from ages 4 - 8. No one is turned away.

Dexter also told me that the Little League that Mandy Corbin is organizing is going to consist of teams from not only from Wellsville. Also included will be teams from the Edison Local area, Empire, Richmond and Toronto. They were trying to get a girls soft ball league going but haven't been able to get enough young ladies interested.

I think it's great that these people are giving of their time and for their efforts they are putting into this. It's all about the kids. Anyone wishing to donate, to help out or just have a question or two can call Thrasher or Corbin for more details.

Kudos to the mayor and EL's mayor for traveling to Columbus this week to put a plug in for their respective towns for some of the stimulus money. As they said in the MJ at least they are being proactive. From the gist of an article in yesterdays papers they didn't come home with a fist full of money but are optimistic that there is still a chance to get a piece of that pie. Lets hope so. I wonder how many mayors across the state didn't bother.

Speaking of being proactive did you see that the WPD rounded up 22 individuals that have been putting off paying fines. Now it's probably going to cost them more. Chief Joe Scarabino was quoted as saying if you owe something you can come in our your own to settle up without getting hit with additional fines.

I would like to mention next year's 5 Year All Class Reunion. The Alumni Association is starting to get ready and have been holding meetings to line things up. Chris McNicol and Doug Rose were named co-chairman for the big dinner. Ruth Gibson & Shirley Shanks have been named co-chairman for activities. The next reunion is scheduled for June 30 through July 3, 2010. Mark it on your calendars. The next meeting will be April 20 this year at 7:30 P.M. at the Alumni Center.

Have you noticed that you can no longer buy the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette daily editions in town anymore. From what I've been told you can't even get one in Beaver County, PA. We have been eliminated from their distribution routes as a money saving cause. You can go on-line but you have to go to Allegheny County if you want to get their ink on your paws. Another nail in the print media's coffin. Sad... People from two different outlets in town told me they are still going to get the Sunday edition.

It's a little on the chilly side but we're seeing a beautiful sunshiny day. Enjoy it. The forecasters say we have a chance of getting some snow accumulations next week. Sad...

Thanks for the dates of the All Class Reunion. I have one correction if I may.
Chris McNicol and Doug Rose are not to be in charge of the All Class Reunion Dinner. They are to be in Charge of the Founding 100 Members Brunch, as they are with the Scholarship Committee.

Spark - Thanks for the correction. I got that info from the newspaper. Two questions:

What is the Founding 100?

What's going on with your Alumni cite? Do you have to register with a user name to get into it now?

Again, thanks for keeping me straight. I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer & can use all the help I get.

Answer to Question # 1

The Founding 100 is the original name of the Scholarship Committee. Now I’m going to float this definition, so here goes...

Originally when the Founding 100 Members was formed is was of course for scholarships to help students with college fees and books. By calling it the Founding 100 Club there were those that assumed that you could be a member if you donated $100.00

The actual requirement for membership was that a member was to donate $100.00 per year for ten years (minimum) to become a member.

It was confusing, so making the name change to just Scholarship Committee just made more sense and was understandable.

I think I've got that right, to be sure, just call Randy Young at the High School.

Answer to Question # 2

The Alumni Website has never had any way of raising funds for it’s self and for the last 9 years has been dependent on donations to help offset the yearly fees that are associated with running a website. DNS Name registrations run about $100.00 per year for the three websites that are interdependent on each other. Or at least use to be until my last move to a less costly server, Web-hosting over the last 9 years has piled up so considerable amount of funds.

Software, such as is running now on the web-site for user profile and is restricted will protect the alumni population information such as names, addresses, email addresses, etc…

Since we have had no donations for the last 18 months my hands were tied and as a last ditch effort to get the website self supporting I had to make a move in this direction.

Not knowing what would be a good registration fee I called Pizza Hut and ordered a large pizza, the cost was $18.00 so I set the registration fee to $9.00 every six months.

Now I know there are some Alumni out there that are going ballistic over this move, but it wasn’t for lack of trying on my part. I begged for money for nine plus years for a little help with the cost. Some did help and it was greatly appreciated. I even went to the Scholarship Committee some months ago and asked them for funds to buy a good quality camera for the upcoming reunion and offered to design them a web site on the .ORG Domain Name. And nothing came of that so the site is totally on its own and is now (sorry to say) a membership site.

It's discouraging that the Alumni Committee doesn't support a web site. People from all across this country depend on getting information from that to make plans, especially for the 5 Year Reunion.

Spark, $18 for a large pizza? That seems kinda high don't it. Maybe down size that to a small or some cheesy bread. Say like, $2 or $3. Maybe then, lots and lots of people may join. just a thought...

The Alumni Membership Bailout ( Better than The House & Senate )
Thanks to those that have joined the .Net and .Org Site will be saved for another year.

Below is what I've been looking at since I started the website.
The memberships have worked saving two of the three DNS names.
If more alumni register that means better software, and video equipment.

You can keep track of all my public information by going to www.allwhois.com and searching for
wellsvillealumni.com - wellsvillealumni.net - wellsvillealumni.org

I'll be paying those fees as soon as I post this to NIB's Blog.
