Director Sean Logan, ODNR, was the key note speaker at the dedication ceremonies held this past Saturday, August 8, 2009, for Wellsville, Ohio's Broadway Park renovation. Logan is familiar to all area residents. Before being appointed to the ODNR Director's job he served our district as our State Representative and was a Columbiana County Commissioner. Logan first entered public service in 1990 and was appointed to the Director's job in 2006 by the governor.
Logan is also very familiar with Wellsville's Broadway Park. His father, Robert Logan, was raised in a house on Broadway. That was the residence of the late Eleanor & Bob Logan, Sean's grandparents.
Logan thanked and praised the work of the Broadway Park Committee and the assistance that Village officials rendered. He also spoke on the mission of the Dept. of Natural Resources and their Div. of Forestry. He proudly announced that Ohio is the number one state in the union with the Tree City USA designations. Tree City USA honors are awarded by the National Arbor Foundation. Wellsville is a three time winner of this annual award.
There were many residents, former residents, businesses and WHS Classes that donated buying pavers and sponsoring the purchase of new trees for the rehabilitation project. The ODNR awarded the Village a grant for this project which began in 2005. See below for more articles on what was accomplished by the Broadway Park Committee.
Although no longer in existence that committee and all the former members that donated their time and efforts should be proud of what they accomplished. As one resident remarked at a Village Council meeting not long ago "they made Broadway Park into a beautiful showcase".
Thanks to all of you, to Sean Logan and the ODNR for making it all possible.
