Broadway resident Jack Smith, shown here, was duly appointed Chief Fountain Watcher by Village Administrator Jim Saracco. Although this fountain was briefly working in 1980 when they installed the lights, Jack told me it's been at least 50 years since this one worked on a steady basis.
The original lights in Broadway Park were gas powered. In 1980 half of them were missing and with the help of then State Representative John Wargo another 13 were located near Canfield, OH, that the Village was able to purchase. All the lights were converted to electric & installed back then. The project was spearheaded by Chuck Amato who was the Safety-Service Director back then.
