The closure of 10th St. Ext. is going to take a little longer than originally expected according to a Pusateri Excavating spokesman this afternoon. As previously mentioned there was an existing drain for hillside run-off that was at first thought to be in good shape. It was anticipated that it would only need cleaning out.
Everything was proceeding smoothly as planned. The new drain was installed. They began stripping the old road surface. They were laying the fabric, covering it with gravel and digging the ditch a little deeper working up-hill. Then they came to the existing drain near the cemetery entrance. After cleaning it out a little it was discovered the old clay pipe for that drain was collapsed. It will need replaced.
This set back will delay the reopening of the street to Friday afternoon at the earliest. The spokesman advised they will be paving Friday. Around 2 o'clock this afternoon they were beginning to dig out the old drain as seen above.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but guess "Murphy's Law" applies here too.
