Wellsville Basketball

With Ma Nature playing havoc on having school this week there hasn't been any games played since last Thursday. Several games have been cancelled starting with the Varsity boys last Friday.

Congratulations to Wellsville Sophomore Mikyla Tipton pictured above. According to Monday's newspapers Mikyla is the area leading scorer in girls basketball. After 13 games one paper reported she is averaging 22.6 ppg and the other had her with 21.9 ppg. That's an amazing feat considering she missed one game. Mikyla scores most of her points driving to the basket and she is a team player. Irene Kiser and Meika Dalrymple also got mentions in the ER. By contrast they are mostly outside shooters. Dalrymple has really been coming on hitting shots outside the three point line. The Lady Tigers are averaging 50.1 ppg.

On the boy's side Wellsville's starting five all made the ER's Leader Board. Mike Johnston leads the Tiger list with 16.4 ppg average followed by Jalen DeSarro, Jeremy Carter, Nunzio Lombardozzi and DeShon Pullie. DeSarro usually finishes each game with double-doubles. Wellsville men are averaging 73 points per game. They hit the century mark one time so far this year.

The Varsity Lady Tigers are seeded number 7 in the ITCL Lower Tier for the District Tournament. The Div. IV NE Sectional District games will all be played at the Hubbard High School. The Lady Tigers open District play Saturday, February 20 against Ashtabula Sts. John & Paul at 2 P.M. The winner of that game will play number 2 seeded McDonald at 6 P.M. Thursday, February 25. McDonald drew a first round bye.

We have not heard any word on the boys yet. Can't even tell you if they have been or when they will be drawn. We'll let you know as soon as we can.

The Middle School 7th & 8th Grade boys open tournament play this coming Saturday, February 13, at Leetonia. The 7th Grade plays Leetonia at 3 P.M. and the 8th is scheduled to play Leetonia at 4 P.M. Winners of those games will play the winners of the Western Reserve vs Southern Local games on Thursday, February 18. Those games are at 5 & 6:15 P.M. Consolation and Championship Games will be played Saturday, February 20. All games will be played at Leetonia. We'll have to get with Mid-School AD Meek to find out about the girls.
