Clean Up Underway

Tuesday - February 9: As reported yesterday an intensive clean-up of the snow clogging up Village streets was to begin Monday night. Crews from Wellsville's Minor Supply & Mike Pusateri Excavating began assembling shortly after 9 P.M. last night to tackle the enormous job.

With another heavy snow being predicted for the area it was it was decided by Mayor Joe Surace and several Village officials yesterday, to be an emergency situation to get the piles of snow off the main thoroughfares. They were fast running out of space to push any potential, additional snow accumulation. It was decided to call in outside help better equipped to haul the white stuff away.

From Friday night through Sunday Wellsville Street Dept. employees had done a tremendous job of clearing streets to make them passable. However with only three members of that department and limited equipment there was only so much that could be done.

Yesterday afternoon the National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning calling for possibly 5 - 10 inches of new snow Tuesday through late Wednesday. Pictured above is what is being accomplished. Members of the WPD were called out for traffic control and to get residents to move cars. Members of the WVFD continue removing down trees and limbs. Just about everybody has been hard at since Friday afternoon.

This afternoon the Mayor said the crews will be working through the night tonight. The salt supply was being replenished as we spoke. The Mayor wanted to assure everyone that every effort possible was being taken to keep up with the weather. With the below freezing temperatures and amounts of snow it is a daunting task. Residents are being asked to be patient.

The Mayor also announced that should electric power be lost once again emergency shelters at the First Christian Church & New Hope Life's Harvest House will be open to anyone needing a warm place. First Christian is located at 831 Main St. & the Harvest House is at 1335 Main. Let's hope they are not needed but God bless Pastor Troy Warner & Bishop Bill Rudder for being there in time of need. They are just two of the many Wellsville citizens that came forward to help. It's what makes the ville someplace special. Thank God we have them.
