WHS Tigers Still Looking For A Way
Friday – February 4: The boys that are the McDonald Blue Devils came calling this past Friday evening and once again had the Tigers scratching their heads by the end of the night. From the opening, the Blue Devils put the full-court press on but the speed and nifty ball handling of the Tigers proved that strategy useless. Maybe it was the Wellsville speed that hurt the Tigers. They were sending the ball to the hoop in fast forward only to see it bounce off the rim or back board. According to the newspaper account they only hit 23 of 50 lay-up attempts. Whatever the reason the McDonald team still remains the nemesis of the WHS Tigers. The Blue Devils took home a 71-65 victory.
It was a heck of game with the Tigers in contention throughout the contest. You have to give them credit for never quitting. It was a rough, in your face game from the opening tip-off to the final buzzer. Three Tigers had double figure scoring totals. Jalen DeSarro had a game high 19 points. Mike Johnston had 18 and Christian Kapp added another 10 of his own. Young Nate Scott hit two of Wellsville's three 3-pointers. Kapp had the other. With his 19 points and 10 rebounds DeSarro recorded another double-double.
In the opening match up the WHS Reserves lost a heart breaker in overtime. At the end of four quarters it was all knotted up at 33 points apiece only to see the Tiger Jvs lose 42-38. Seth Bradford had a team high of 11 points in that game.
With the win the undefeated Blue Devils clinched the ITCL Lower Tier. They are tough to beat but we don't think they are invincible. Friday's game had many of us in the stands sitting on the edge of our seats thinking the Tigers were going to knock another team from the ranks of undefeated. The chips just didn't fall Wellsville's way. One of these days...
Wellsville returns to action tomorrow at Sebring.
Good Luck guys...
