WHS Lady Tigers' Tail Spin Soon to Turn Around

The last time we wrote about the WHS Lady Tigers Basketball Team their record was 7&4. That was after dropping one to Beaver Local in the Tiger's Den. Since then the Ladies have been on a downward spiral. They lost at Leetonia 56-44, at state ranked Lowellville 82-49, at East Liverpool 69-36 and this past Monday evening, to Western Reserve 56-29 at home.

Team scoring leader Mikyla Tipton went past 1,000 points in her high school career in the lost to Lowellville. We'll have more on Tipton's career scoring later. Tipton suffered an ankle injury in last Saturday's game in the 3rd Quarter at East Liverpool. She did not play Monday. She spent the game on the bench looking like a lost child. You rarely see Tipton on the bench and you could tell she is uncomfortable being there. She did tell us her ankle is on the mend and her doctor left it up to her to decide how it feels before returning to the action. She was hoping for a couple of snow days and got her wish Tuesday & Wednesday of this week. Her thinking was if she could stay home she could better treat her ankle.

Tipton is an outstanding ball player. She's aggressive and is not leary of mixing it up. Most of her scoring is done inside the key or near the boards. However, the Lady Tigers are not a one person team. They are loaded with talent. Going into the season there was a lot of excited anticipation of an outstanding year. If asked back on November 30 when the first game was played there were visions of a lop side won-loss record with the athletes on the team. We don't believe anyone would have predicted they would be 7&8 at this point in the season. It's perplexing...

In Monday's game against Western Reserve, Senior Shawntae Dillard had a team high 13 points. Rilee Livolsi had six points, five rebounds and a couple of very determined blocked shots. Sophomore Maleya Fultz had a team high eight rebounds.

Pictures in the collage above were taken at the Western Reserve game. There was no Reserve game Monday. The Ladies look to start turning things around against the Lady Blue Devils of McDonald this evening in the Tiger's Den.

Pick your heads up Ladies. Don't look back. With a positive attitude and playing to your maximum potential you can knock 'em off one game at a time. There's no doubt about it.
