2009 Touchdown Club Football Banquet

Monday - November 9: The Football Boosters Club held their annual banquet last night to honor the 2009 WHS Tiger Football Team. The banquet was held in the WHS Auditeria. The team finished the season with an outstanding record of 7 & 3.

With their son Markus graduating in the spring Touchdown Club member Darlene Allison announced that she and husband Mark are retiring. She issued a plea for new members to join and carry on the tradition of helping out the team.

The senior members of the team were awarded their game jerseys and a jacket. Freshman members were presented traveling bags as were all the assistant coaches.

Head Coach Dave Skinner announced each member of the team and shared his favorite memory of each one of the seniors. He recalled Jeremy Carter's kick-off return for 104 yards against Western Reserve. Carter led all area rushers with 1,239 total yards this year. Skinner recalled Jake Cole's knock down hit he put on a big Western Reserve QB calling it the greatest hit he's ever seen by a small corner back on a big guy. He mentioned Bubba Dowling's love of contact when he lowered his shoulder on an interception return on a defender before he was brought down inside the five yard line. He had something for each senior member.

Skinner made a special presentation to senior Ronnie Morrell who accomplished a line man's dream this year. In the Sebring game in the 3rd quarter the Tigers were faced with a 3 & 1 at Sebring's 1 yard line. While trying to decide on what play to send in someone behind him said "now would be a good time to use Morrell, Coach". He did and Ronnie scored his first and only touch down in his high school career. Pictured here is Ron being presented a game ball signed by all members of the squad.

Also pictured here are all the seniors on the team. I got all the names but I'm afraid I would give someone the wrong name. You know them. With 10 seniors Skinner is going to have some holes to fill. Also shown here are the Assistant Coaches. Skinner said he drove the bus and these guys did the tune-ups, changed the oil and balanced the tires.

It was a great season for Tiger football. We're all proud of you and you can be proud of your accomplishments.
