Monday - November 1: The Wellsville Board of Education held a Special meeting Monday afternoon in the Superintendent's Office. Present at the meeting was Board President Ed Bauer, VP Tom Brophey and members Bill Miller, Mike Cook & Karen Dash. Also in attendance was Superintendent Rich Bereschek, Treasurer Coleen Wickham and Maintenance Supervisor Joe Traina. It was a short meeting with the public portion lasting less than six minutes.
At last week's Buildings & Grounds Committee meeting it was decided to recommend to the full Board that the treasurer advertise for bids for a 4-wheel drive pick-up truck equipped with a snow plow.
A resolution was passed authorizing the treasurer to advertise for bids for a 4-wheel drive truck, plow ready. The plow is purchased separately and is estimated to be around $5,000. It is not required to be put up for bids. Bereschek noted it will be the first pick-up truck owned by the district. He went on to explain the district learned from last year's weather that it was hard on the equipment and especially hard on the employees with the equipment the district has.
Learning that there are possible rebates available, Board President Bauer said they are looking at 2010 3/4 ton models. When asked if there was a preference on the make and specifications, Traina replied "you do whatever you can do and I'll be appreciative".
When asked about the tractor and pole building mentioned at last week's committee meeting Wickham advised the tractor is estimated to be under $25,000 in cost which does not require going through the bidding process. Bauer said the pole building is in their vision but is not on the front burner at this point in time.
The Board then voted to retire to Executive Session to discuss possible land acquisition and WTA contract negotiations. The teachers have been working on a contract extension since the end of August by mutual consent to research health insurance. Bauer said there will be no action taken when the Board returns from Executive Session.
The next scheduled meeting is Monday, November 15 at 6:30 P.M. in the Superintendent's Office.
