Business Pride Award Unveiled
The first annual Business Pride Award was unveiled yesterday and presented to Wellsville's Center Pharmacy. The award is sponsored by Wellsville's Revitalization Committee (WRC) and was designed and manufactured by Stevenson Company. It's a unique bicycle rack.
In presenting the Business Pride award to Center Pharmacy co-owner Joe Amaismeier, WRC President Candy Bangor said the committee selected the Main Street business for their community involvement and pride in maintaining the appearance of their business. Although many others were considered, Center Pharmacy was noted for their contribution in the Village clean-up event held last spring. Co-owners Jim Koopman & Amaismeier had Center employees participating in the sweeping and cleaning.
Called "city art" the idea was gleaned from a picture seen in a magazine. The picture was taken to Stevenson co-owner Todd Lynch with two questions. The first was can you make this and the second was will you donate it? Lynch gave an affirmative answer to both questions and set about drawing up plans to be used. Lynch confided yesterday the hardest part was designing something to resemble the magazine picture.
Stevenson co-owners Todd & Tim Lynch are generous contributors to the Wellsville community when called upon. Over the years they have done many projects for the Memorial Council and last summer they even designed and manufactured a stand for the Friends of The Old Fire Station. The stand holds what is believe to be Wellsville's first fire alarm. It's a bell believed to have originally hung in the market in the center of town. Stevenson is the oldest surviving business in town going back to its start in 1836.
Bangor remarked the best part in presenting the award is that two of Wellsville's businesses were involved in making it possible. Both were thanked for their contributions to the community. Amaismeier said what they give to the community can't begin to compare to what the community has done for them since buying the drug store in 2003. Mayor Joe Surace noted the pharmacy has been good for the community and were deserving of the award. CC Commissioner Penny Traina offered congratulations to Center Pharmacy,Steveson and the WRC for their collaboration and cooperation in the Wellsville. Saying there is no place like home, it is exciting to see everyone come together in their efforts to make Wellsville improvements.
The Business Pride Award is part of the WRC's Main Street USA project. Shown above are some of the many folks on hand for Monday's presentation. In the picture in the lower right corner, from the left, is Mayor Joe Surace, Commissioner Traina, Bangor, Amaismeier, Lynch and Steveson machinists Bob Jones, Jason Keyes & Denny Wright. Councilwoman Sue Haugh was there representing Wellsville Village Council along with many members of the WRC.

Sometimes it seems that every day is a Monday!
Sorry Susie...

The president of the chamber was invited to come and bring other chamber members. The answer was NO. What a shame that the COC will not celebrate and support the success of a local business because the WRC sponsored the event. It would be nice if they would get down off the cross and work with people who are motivated to do the work it takes to bring our village back to life. It is after all about the village of Wellsville, not the petty disputes of a few people. These things should be put aside for the greater good of the community. That is what serious, committed leaders of a community do. They learn to work together despite their differences and carve out a working relationship that benefits everyone and serves the community they work for.
Connie - we agree and have been pushing working together for the good of the Village for some time. It should be a team effort by all. It's time to put silly human pride aside. Good things can be accomplished with just trying to work together.
Just for the record, many of the folks pictured are members of both the Chamber & the WRC. We find that encouraging and hope others will come forth for our piece of heaven on earth. There will be enough credit for all when we get things really going. This is our home. With a little effort we can all make it shine.

Nib, taking your statement (There will be enough credit for all when we get things really going. Those that do from the heart never ask or want credit. There are defnitely too many in the chamber and other organizations that want to be recognized for doing something. My hope is if and when Baard comes in, the right business minded people deal with them, not some that are members of the Chamber that want their pictures and names in the paper.
There is nothing wrong with wanting
credit for things you do. That is human nature. And when you are a committee, like WRC, you have to keep your name out there so you can keep garnering support from the community to keep doing the things you want to accomplish. We do not however, do anything to further our own agendas. We are not running for office, or making any money. We truly do for the Village, because it is where we live and want to make it a better place. And God knows, there is lots to be done. People see thru
the people who do from the heart and those who dont. Everyone should work together and we could accomplish so much more. We did and have invited the Chamber to work together, and they flat out refuse. Maybe they will have a change of heart. I hope so.
I can't speak for God or assume what he knows and other people shouldn't either. And the comment in the 3rd post about chamber people coming down from the cross was offensive. No matter the agenda COC has the experience to know when to be quiet. Your work is good WRC, why are you concerned over the chamber.
We are concerned because we care about the village. You can not have people working against each other when so much needs to be done. Have you driven through Wellsville lately? Are you happy with things like store front windows covered with old papers? Do you like the perpetual yard sale that is allowed to thrive beside a real established and professional business? The rampant drug selling and use, the lack of businesses, the deserted streets, the houses and buildings in deplorable condition, the lack of any type of recreation for the older kids and on and on and on. One group can not fix everything but, everyone working together can make a huge difference. Other towns do it. They have disagreements but, they are able to keep their eye on the prize. The whole village has to put aside thier differences and think about the greater good and endless possibilities. If you want to be a leader, then for God's sake LEAD. You don't lead with just a select few, you lead with everyone. But, you know that.
Valid points. Your group has completed 2 successful projects. If your good will to work together with COC is being rejected continuously stop trying. If thats not acceptable to you, renew your memberships. Would there be any greater way to show your motivation to be team players. Your heart is on your sleeve as are your frustrations. Almost every problem has a solution, it's just a matter of finding it.
Back at the perpectual yard sale, so that requires an ongoing permitt? Is the policy not to deny one after so many or is it that the yard sale is a little business? Your right about leaders and I do know. I also know that leaders have to watch their backs, don't over think this, but I'm trying to watch yours.
I have to say something. Would you pay money to belong to a group, that the Board has passed a
resolution that the name of your committee, is never to be spoken at a meeting? We were told, by Randy and Diana, in the Mayors office, that they are not allowed to speak the name of WRC at a Board meeting. I can hardly believe it, but it is true. Now,
I cannot see us paying our hard earned money, for that kind of treatment. There needs to be a move from their direction to change that, then we could feel welcome to rejoin and try to forge a working relationship. By the way, no such motion or resolution has been adopted by WRC. We are allowed to utter the Chamber of Commerce at meetings. What a sad state of affairs. Community leaders should not be engaging in such infantile practices. I hope this will change
It could change if and when they get real leadership.

Re: "No matter what the agenda the COC has the experience to know when to be quiet." You have to be kidding or living in another world. That is just not an accurate statement, it is wishful thinking.
The Chamber is not being quiet.
They just don't have the balls
to sign their names to anything and say what they are really thinking and saying behind everyones back. They should be advised that their so called silence is deafening to the businesses in the Village. Anyone can put up a Christmas tree. What else is on their agenda.
