Tuesday - December 1: The Buckeye Water District had two meetings yesterday. The first was a Special Board of Trustees meeting held Tuesday morning at the Water Treatment Plant. Present at that meeting was Board President Mike Ryan, members Gene McGaffick, Jack Call, Dave Lloyd, Jack Whitaker, Cal Carney & Tim O'Hara. Also present was District Manager Al DeAngelis, BWD Solicitor Fred Emmerling and Tracy Allen.
The meeting was held to pass a resolution to award Part B of the Salineville Waterline Project to Tucson Inc. of New Philadelphia. Part B consists of installing approximately two miles of new waterline from just beyond the Southern Local School complex on into the Village of Salineville. Tucson was the second lowest bidder with a price of $827,166. The lowest bid was submitted by JCM Contracting of New Springfield. However that bid was pulled by the contractor after discovering a costly omission on their bid. Notice to proceed will be issued once final construction documents are signed.
The second meeting was Tuesday afternoon at the BWD offices on Clark by the Service Committee. Present at that meeting were Committee members Cal Carney, Dave Lloyd and Tim O'Hara. Also present was District Manger Al DeAngelis and Board President Mike Ryan. The purpose of the meeting was to hear an appeal from a customer charged a shut off fee after his water was shut off. Water service was shut off after the customer went delinquent more than 30 days on his bill without any attempt by the customer to make alternative arrangements with the water company. After a lengthy question & answer session the appeal was denied.
Normally we would not report on something like this. However, we were impressed by the members of the Service Committee and other BWD officials making it abundantly clear they are willing to work with any customer in most cases. Most times you just have to communicate with them.
