901 Main

Here's a Wellsville building that has stood the test of time. Our earliest recollection of this building goes back to the mid-1950s when it was a drug store. Believe it was Bloor's Drug, owned by folks from East Liverpool. Back then it looked pretty much the same as it does today in the top photo.

The second photo shows a man & young girl standing in front that were identified on the back as William Hurst & Addie Hurst Mosur. It appears that it was taken before the street was paved. We believe the third photo was taken later on in time. The street appears much smoother - maybe brick by then. We're not sure but MacGillinray Notions next door might be the same building that stands there today. The ladies in that photo were not identified. Neither of the older pictures have a date on them.

The older photos are from the archives at the River Museum. The exterior has had some changes but it's appears to be the same building.

Do not forget Fusco pizza shop

We don't remember a pizza shop in there. When was it there? Was the late Ralph Fusco involved with it?

I just wanted to add a few notes to what you posted. Cork and I lived across from the Haugh's Drug store from 1942 to 1945 with my Mother and Grandparents. I remember one of the most beautiful soda fountains in memory in that drugstore. There was a back patio with two wrought iron tables and chairs which sat behind the store. In nice weather people sat outside and enjoyed their soda's. There was a back entrance to the drugstore and most people who lived on the Center Street side of the store used that as an entrance. Bought my first comic book there, boy would I like to have that back. I think the Haughs store was a Mom and Pop operation.

(Note - this comment was sent to us via e-mail from an old friend that claims to not know how to comment on blogs....nib)

We think that fountain was moved up to Center Pharmacy when Tommy & Larry bought Culps. It sat just inside the door for the longest time but don't believe they ever used it as a soda fountain at that location. It was a beautiful marble construction. Wonder whatever happened to it?

I recall that there was a barber shop/hair salon in the building for awhile, in the mid 1980's, as I recall.
