WHS Lady Tigers Open Season With Wins

Thursday - September 2: The WHS Lady Tigers were victorious in their home opener yesterday defeating the Lady Lions of Heartland Christian 3 sets to 1. It wasn't an easy, slam dunk volleyball win as the Lady Lions kept fighting back to keep the game close.

Wellsville won the first set 25 - 20 with the Lions coming back to take the second 26 - 24. In the biggest spread of the evening the Lady Tigers took the third set 25 - 15. It was back & forth leads in the fourth & final exciting set before the Orange & Black closed it out with a 28 -26 win. It was looking like it was going to go into a fifth for a while as Heartland Christian kept coming back to tie it up. In the end the Tigers proved they were the more determined team.

Shown in the collage above are pictures from yesterday's match. Wellsville improves their mark to 2 & 0 on the young season. The Lady Tigers won their season opener out at Southern Local earlier in the week. The Reserves go to 1 & 1 on the season beating the Lady Lions in the earlier game. The Lady Tigers return to action next Tuesday traveling to Jackson Milton. They will be back home Wednesday after noon, September 8, to take on the EL Lady Potters.

In other Wellsville sports the Daw Middle School 8th grade Volleyball team are now 1 & 1. They beat Columbiana on Monday and dropped one to United on Wednesday. The 7th grade Ladies won both of their games. The Daw Middle School team return to action Tuesday against Southern Local. Game time is 5 P.M.

The Wellsville Junior Varsity football team defeated Toronto this past Monday winning 14 - 6 at home. They return to action Saturday at E. Palestine. The Daw Middle School football team improved their record to 2 & 0 yesterday beating Crestview 36 - 18. The Daw team travels to Lowellville next Thursday.

Tonight the Wellsville Varsity football team open their home stand taking on the Bulldogs of East Palestine. Game time is 7:30. Here's hoping they put the leash on the 'dogs! We're looking forward to seeing the "young & the restless" put another one in the win column.

Good Luck to all the Tigers...
