Bulldogs Bite The Tigers

Friday - September 3: The WHS Football Team had their home opener against the East Palestine Bulldogs Friday evening in ITCL play. Some might say it was a disappointing performance by the Tigers for the first game of the year at Nicholson Stadium. With the exciting last minute, come from behind win the week before in Toronto hopes were high. The Bulldogs got thumped at Southern Local in their first game. We thought we would see some inspired ball playing by the Orange & Black after all that. Except for a few notable plays by the Tigers what we saw was an East Palestine team showing up to play and a Wellsville team just about only showing up for the most part. Hopefully this was that one bad game they say you have to get out of the way. In spite of having a lot of young players we've watched them practice and play. We know they can do much better than what we saw this past Friday.

We did see a nice sack by Joe Hall. We saw a heads up fumble recovery by Senior Chad Elliott. Toward the end of the game we saw some nifty running by a couple of Freshman backs. They showed some nice speed getting to the outside to pick up a few yards. We saw Elliott get a few nice runs before getting injured in the 3rd quarter. It just wasn't enough to put some points on the board. East Palestine shut them out taking home a 20 - 0 win. By the end of the night the Tigers only got 74 total yards with more than half of that in the first half.

As we noted above Senior running back Chad Elliott went down in the 3rd quarter injuring an already injured ankle. He had to be assisted off the field and was later taken for medical attention. We haven't heard any reports since on his condition. We would like wish the best for the young man.

Both teams evened up their record to 1 & 1 on the season. Without even talking to anyone we know it's going to be an intense week of practice before the Tigers travel to Lisbon next Friday. They take on the Blue Devils Friday, Sept. 10 at 7 P.M.

This game is behind them. It's time to move on. Good Luck guys.

Yesterday the WHS Jayvees took on the Bulldog Jayvees at East Palestine. They brought home a 35 -34 win to go to 2 & 0 on the season. Freshman Jordon Sloan accounted for three TDs with Marcus Moxley & Dakota Barnes each adding one apiece. Freshman Place-kicker Cavan LeMasters had five PATs. Now that's encouraging...
