Chili Fest - OSU Tailgate Party

Yesterday afternoon & evening the Riverside Reunion Committee from the Wellsville Elks put on a heckuva of a party to raise funds for next year's reunion. Once again Hootch & the gang did an outstanding job getting things organized and giving us a very enjoyable time. Other than a few light sprinkles early it seemed that everything went without a hitch. They sold every last spoon full of chili and Mother Nature blessed the event by moving the rain out for most of the event.

The Generations Band - John & John Jr. Taylor - entertained us for the first half. It was the first time I heard them and they really have a good mixture of songs putting out a good sound. John plays a "mean" sax. During half time fellow Elks member Scott Taggart, his bride and their wedding party passed by on the Gateway Clipper Fleet party liner Empress. We all waved and got rewarded with a blast of the horn. Then there was a short tribute to three folks from the ville that have gone on ahead of us. After that they dropped the screen on the stage for the game. It was a 20 foot screen and the game was in HDTV. Made you feel like you were right there on the field out in L A land.

I'll let pictures tell the rest of the story. You can click on them to enlarge. If you didn't stop by you missed out.

Now you can breath a little Hootch but next time let's get a win, eh?

The Chili-fest turned out really nice! So glad the weather cooperated even though the Buckeyes didn't. I might be ruined for watching big games any other way than on the big screen. The Shepherd Bros, Tim Mason & everyone else who helped plan & set this up deserve a lot of credit. I missed out on the chili, but the stuffed pepper sandreedges were delish!

Believe that young man playing in the puddle is the next generation Hootch.

Thanks for the pictures and comments Nib. Although we didn't have the big crowds we've had at Chili-Fests past, I sit here today satisfied at the outcome of our first really public Fest. The weather was really looking bleak as the week went on. And on Friday as we were setting up, my enthusiasm was quickly being washed away in the steady downpour. By Saturday morning, I didn't even want to get out of bed. That is the biggest stress factor in doing anything like this. You have such a big time and money investment into it and it all comes down to the weather. But luckily for us, the Chili-Fest gods were smiling down on us. Unfortunately the football gods weren't. But thanks to all that came down to see what we were up to. There's not many of us who put these things together. But I couldn't be working with a better bunch. Now it's back to the drawing board.

Hootch --

I was on the boat, and didn't do anything for this effort, except show up briefly, but as a Riverside Reunion Committee member, you have to be assurred that anything we do brings out those who care about the 'Ville. The first two years were the hardest, and this past year being our third, we made out even when the weather fought with us. Thus, we will continue on, and leave it in God's hands. I think he's Mother Nature's boss, right? Seriously, we have had the weather to contend with in both of our endeavors so far this year, but the 'Villians still show up, and that's the most important thing. Even though I live far away, and can't be there often, I hear great things about everything you and we, the committee, try to do. (I'm getting used to these morning-after phone calls on the road back to Boston!). Kudos to Susie and her stuffed-pepper sandwiches. Because I was on the boat, I didn't get one. My boyfriend was pissed, Sue! You'll have to make some at Christmas-time. To 'Ole Nib -- guess you got there after I left, and then left before I got there. Would loved to have seen you and the Mrs. Hootch, keep a chin up -- greater days keep a'comin (more than you'd hoped for, brother!).

Thanks, 'Ole Nib. Your support is appreciated!

Hey Boston Bud - Didn't know you were there until I saw Susie's pictures. Said to Mrs. Nib "oh she was there". Figured you had another engagement when I saw you were in your Sunday go-to-meetin' frock. We got there a little after six. Had to go to work or I would have been there watching the rest of the game. Really loved that big screen HDTV. That in itself was really impressive. It was a nice night cap to a very enjoyable event.
