There were no additional comments forthcoming from law enforcement officers involved in yesterday's drug raids in Wellsville. One officer from the Sheriff's Office told us "we were just serving warrants".To the best of our knowledge there were two individuals apprehended on outstanding warrants and two rifles confiscated at a residence on 14th Street, pictured here. We got the impression by the time the officers reached the fourth stop word was already out. It travels fast in a small town. No one was found to be at home at either of two houses on 14th St. Additional stops were made at three different places on Commerce Street and one on Main St.
At last night's Wellsville Council meeting Mayor Susan Haugh promised that the Village's war on drugs was not finished. No additional comments were made in regards to what is next. The Mayor also issued a warning to Village landlords saying that if it can be proved, anyone who knowingly rents to known drug dealers will also be prosecuted.
Public reaction to yesterday's actions are overwhelmingly positive. Many comments made by individuals are encouraging Wellsville officials to keep the ball rolling. Although there were only two suspects taken in yesterday's raids the law enforcement efforts were greatly applauded.

I'm all for the police doing their jobs, but they should do their due dilligence before knocking on law abiding citizens' doors due to "anonymous" tips.

altho I applaud her efforts, I'm curious what charge a landlord could face for renting to known drug dealers? Not really sure you can charge someone with "being stupid" LOL
They can take their house. No criminal charges. It was reported wrong. You wanna lose your house cause you rent to these idiots, keep on renting to them. Watch what is about to happen in this town. Just what I heard on the street lol.
I am a landlord of one of the rentals that was broken into. Before we rent to anybody, we do check backgrounds as much as possible. We check court records, facebook, & ask around. We put a lot of our hard earned money into our places and the last thing we want is to rent to somebody that has such disrespect for their community. They aren't likely to have respect for our rental. We don't mingle with drug dealers, so it can be difficult learning everyone's lifestyles. I too applaud everyone involved. If we have misjudged tennants then bust down every door they have! We are 100% behind cleaning up Wellsville. Cleaner town = cleaner tenants.
That's refreshing to hear. At a recent Crime Watch meeting a Sheriff Office detective advised that all a landlord needs to do is to contact them for a quick background check. If there is a record involved they would be able to tell you. We're not positive but we think their computer info comes from sources nationwide and believe it's free.

As requested we didn't post your comment but two things we wanted to mention. The CC Clerk of Court is an excellent site but it is only for Columbiana County. If someone has a record in Columbus, Cleveland or some such place it would not show up on the CC site.
Number 2 would be that we believe the Village administration is working on changing that image. Hang in there.

I am ALL for busting out and getting the drugs out of town. but it is alot easier said than done. anyone can make statements or warnings to watch out we are coming for you and I am sure that some believe in that. but when i drive through town every day and see drug deals going down in the same locations all day and night have never read of these locations ever being raided or even looked into I have to have some doubt. Everyone knows of at least one bar in town that you can walk in at ay time of day or night and buy anything that you want and the village has to be aware of this. so my question is why the wait. its been going on for years at these places. you take away the customers and the dealers wont have anyone for sales. the village can issue all the warnings they want but the users and dealers are still going about their business day to day. It does not take much to get a search warrant and go in some of these businesses. let them know you wont tolerate it. you have to come down hard and not just by words. show up with a team of police and sooner or later they will get the idea
