You Decide

Sheltergate II remains a point of contention between Village Council and the administration. At this week's council meeting the bill remained tabled. The bill is $5,625 for repairs and putting in electrical service to the two picnic shelters up in Hammond's Park.

At a Property Committee meeting this past Monday Councilwoman Rosie Goss was quoted in the MJ as saying "go up there and see rotten wood and nails sticking out". So, I did. Got some pictures too. You can click on any of them to enlarge.

The work was done to shore up the shelters and a large portion of that bill was for the electrical work. Each shelter has a circuit breaker. In the large shelter on top of the hill I counted six outlets and two in the smaller shelter. About $4,700 of that bill was for the electrical work. The remaining portion was for the shoring up.

Since I've been accused of trying to micro manage on a computer I'll reserve comment about my feelings on this situation. You folks feel free to express your comments. Councilman Joe Soldano is suppose to meet with the owner of the construction company in an effort to resolve the situation.

My God, what kind of work is that. I hope he did enough electrical work to light up Wellsville. Plus enough electrical outlets so all of Wellsville can use them. They need to take him to court, what a disgrace, and Saracco says, he did a good job. That's to get the heat off him for not turning in any paperwork until the job was over.

I agree, I talked to a Council member because I could not believe the amount of the job was right, I do work, there is a injustice being done here. Just because Saracco says his bullshit, doesn't mean Council has to let this go. Just like the pavilion at 18th St, the Village got taken on that job also. I hope the hell council does not pay this bill, or I will lose what respect I have left for them.

For $5,000 they should have put a new roof on it too!!

Where do you buy rotten wood??

Must be his kind of idea of "Share the Wealth"

I asked a good friend of mine, a certified electrician for many years, to take a look at the job. After a good look at the work that was done, I was told cost of material and labor should not have been over $3,000. So, being a firm believe in a second opinion, I asked another friend to take a look (one who does construction work on the side) and he also stated that the village was over charged. One friend lives in Wellsville and the other lives in East Liverpool and neither knows the other.

Clearly the work is shoddy and overpriced. It makes me sad and mad to see the village being so taken advantage of by Cataldo. The village does not have money to throw away ! We could have used it on that never used street sweeper or to fix the large pot hole at the corner of 18th and Clark. Where does the Hammond Park Commision fit into this mess? The park could be the gem of the village if the administration would support the park. Do we still have a caretaker at the park ?

Peas and carrots,
Maybe your electrician friend(s) could look the job over and make sure that the wiring was done properly. The last thing that the 'ville needs is a lawsuit over improperly installed electrical work.

Here's another question that needs to be answered. How did GG&J, the village's engineers, come up with 155 tons of sludge to be removed when seeking estimates for removing sludge, when in fact Synagro removed 543 tons? If you remember way back, when the old Mason building on Main burned down, they under estimated that project too and it ended up costing the village more money. If council is upset with the extra cost of the cleaning of the digesters cost, then they should be questioning how GG&J come up with this figure, but instead they hired them to prepare bids for converting the system. What's wrong with this picture?

Incompetence, bad judgement and poor decisions...just like the dog catcher situation.

Great to see that saracco finally had the contaminated dirt moved from behind village hall. Maybe it wasn't contaminated I can't remember, but either way nice to see it gone. I wonder where it went. Yeh the pavillion doesn't quite look like I thought it might after the repairs and the cost of the repairs.

I agree that it looks alot nicer with that heap of rubbish gone from behind Village Hall. Looks like another big pile of metal and scrap is there now. Must be what they removed from the dirt pile before they hauled it away to fill in the gaping foundation hole where they had to tear down half of the Eagles Club.
I saw them take load after load of that dirt that was behind Village Hall up to the Eagles and fill the big hole in with it.
Was that dirt they removed really contaminated? Maybe someone should check into it. Maybe get hold of the E.P.A.

I was told the dirt was contaminated and they would have to pay to get it hauled away....is that really true about it being dumped at the Eagles?
