WHS Lady Tigers Open With Victory
Tuesday - November 30: The Wellsville High School Lady Tigers opened the 2010/2011 basketball season with a victory over up-river rival East Liverpool. The Lady Potters came into the Tigers Den with one victory already and left with their first loss of the young season.
From the opening tip-off the Lady Tigers took command early in the game leading the Potters in all four quarters. The Lady Tigers used a stifling press forcing a total of 28 turn overs by the East Liverpool team. The final score was Wellsville 70-54. Junior Mikyla Tipton had a team high 20 points, followed by Sophomore Meika Dalrymple with 16. Rilee Livolsi & Irene Kiser each contributed 11 points with Senior Shawntae Dillard adding 6 more. Kiser had two 3-pointers and Dalrymple added another one from outside the arch.
With only one senior on the team the Lady Tigers are young with a lot of talent, both with the starting five and coming off the bench. The Tigers committed 21 turn overs themselves but it is only the first game of the season. We suspect that will be worked on to bring that number down.
The Junior Varsity Lady Tigers dropped the opening match by a score of 42-26. For most of them it was their first game at the high school level. The JV team is made of up of five freshmen and only two sophomores.
The Lady Tigers return to action this coming Saturday when they host Toronto. Tip-off for the JV game is set for 1 PM.
Good game. Congratulations Ladies...
