Shooting In The Ville

WTOV Channel 9 broke the story that there was a reported shooting on the 700 block of Washington Street in Wellsville in the early hours of the morning today. They quoted Chief Joe Scarabino as saying several shell casings & live rounds were found outside the house. He also told News9 that a white substance was found that is being tested to determine if it is heroin. According to the WTOV report no one was hurt in the shooting.

That's it for what was reported. Maybe they will have more on their newscast at 5. There was no report of any arrests. At this point any other comments would be pure conjecture. If the white stuff is heroin then I'm guessing a drug related turf battle. We'll have to wait and see what develops. I think the house in question is rental property.

We will try to add on to this story as things unfold.

Were there kids inside? If so, were Children's Services called? Who lives there? That could be a BIG clue. What was the year, make or model of the suv? If the person was not at the house at the time of the shooting, where were they?

I hope the girl was not involved. I pray she was not involved for the sake of her children. What are these mothers thinking when they surround themselves with drug dealers??? How many times must we see this before someone realizes the damage that is done to the children? Get the children away from these people.

I wonder if WPD will think to go to the house where these casings were found and maybe check for drugs etc. Let me think about it. No they probably won't. In fact, why wasnt it in the paper. Why is it that Wellsville news, many times doesnt get reported.

Nice Job - What world do you live in? The shooting occurred Tuesday night after 11 P.M. which made it too late to make the papers on Wednesday. Both of our local papers made it front page stories in today's addition. Since both papers are morning papers it's rare that anything that happens that late is in the next day's editions.

Your remarks about the WPD were totally unfounded and uncalled for. According to the MJ Ed Wilson and two officers were initially on the scene after the call came in. They even got the chief out of bed to assist at the scene. Who do you think found the shell casings and suspected heroin? It was Wellsville's finest.

I think you need to bend over, grab you ears and pull hard. You also owe apologies to the WPD and the newspapers.

Good point Nib. Not to mention the fine job of Eisebhart and Garber as noted in the articles about that asshole Billy Keyes and the assault of the girl on sixth street. Come on people, give credit where credit is due.

Did you actually refer to the Chief as "Wellsville's Finest"?!

Nice Job:
The Review's deadline for last page out is 11:30 p.m. The Journal's deadline for last page out is midnight. The shooting happened after 11:30 p.m. Nobody's going to stop the presses because someone heard something that might or might not have been shots that were fired. And if you know of news going on, I'm sure if you call either reporter at either paper, they'll check it out if you give them a call. News tips are always welcome, you know.

Rumors are flying, lots of people asking questions and confusing initial newspaper accounts are all we have so far on this incident. I heard from a couple of folks some wild speculation as to who the shooter was. Some say the shooting originated from the street with shots fired into the house. Others say when this occurred some one came out of the house with a gun shooting back in wild west fashion. All we know so far is that witnesses said a shooting did occur and shell casings were found along with suspected illicit drugs. Will we ever find out what really happened? That's the question. Where were the suspected drugs found? Why wasn't any arrests made at least on suspected drug charges? All I know for sure is this is another negative mark on our community and it has to be dealt with. The sooner the better. I know they need evidence but how much evidence do they need?
Questions, questions, questions...

When I referred to WPD as "Wellsville's finest" I was using the term as another phrase for police officers. I made no reference to the quality of their performing their duties.

This happens all the time in other communities (including East Liverpool), houses getting shot at and it's pretty rare that anyone is ever arrested for it, so get over yourselves, Wellsvillites. It's just another day in the neighborhood now that drugs are so prevalent.
You always have to make some kind of reference to YOUR police being inept, which just isn't true. This kind of crime often goes unsolved, not just in Wellsville.

Before you morph into Matt Stewart, there have been things happen here that have never been in the paper. I think it is the duty of the police, to make sure residents know so they can watch out for themselves. Don't even go near Ed Wilson with me. I cant relay my recent police dealings with him or I will get sued for slander. The Mayor only won by 4 votes, and I think his handling and the performance of the PD was a big part of that. Anyone who says there isnt room for improvement in our PD ought to bend over, grab their ears and pull them off.

jeez - at first I thought you were writing about the Amato shooting. Should have known better as thats old news that is in the process of buried and forgotten. As this will be.

A day in the hood...are you a drug dealer or in law enforcement? The average citizen is not going to be as cavalier as you seem to be about this shooting. You are wrong.. people get arrested for this kind of crime all the time, they just don't get arrested around here.

Nope, not in law enforcement or drug dealing, just someone who observes very closely. And yes, SOMETIMES people get arrested for drive-by shootings but, more often than not, they DON'T.
Do you read anything other than this blog? If so, you'd see that it's reported in the papers all the time: so-and-so reported shots fired; so-and-so reported bullet holes in his house; police reported shots fired into a house.
And, it's rare that anyone is arrested. And, yes, I'm talking about right here in Columbiana County.

Oh, by the way, that's no reflection on the police...they can't get to a spot where shots were fired in the time it takes the low lifes to run.
It's usually by tips from neighbors or sometimes a quick-witted cop who sees an unusual vehicle fleeing a scene that gets someone actually arrested.
The cops are doing the best they can with the amount of crap that's going on and the number of officers they have.
I believe it's overwhelming them.
